Ross Young, founder of the research firms Display Supply Chain Consultants and DisplaySearch (DSCC), has released exclusive new information regarding Xiaomi’s first folding screen smartphone. According to the man, the first foldable of the Chinese giant will be marketed under the name “Mi Mix 4 Pro Max”.
On the one hand, this seems like a completely unexpected result, since only smartphones with sliders were presented in this line. On the other hand, this is quite logical, given that the company has always used the aforementioned line of devices to experiment with new technologies.
The insider also reports that the panel of the Mi Mix 4 Pro Max comes from the company China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT), a subsidiary of TCL. The terminal in question will fold with the screen facing outwards, in a similar way to what happens with the Huawei Mate XS. Ross Young added that the device’s display, when folded, will have a diagonal of 6.38 inches.
It was previously reported that the units for the first Xiaomi foldable would be provided by Samsung. Now, however, the analyst confirms that Samsung Display will provide foldable screens to the Asian brand in the future for another smartphone (also fold, of course).
Recall that the Chinese giant showed a working prototype of a folding smartphone for the first time in early 2019, but since then the Chinese manufacturer has never released a commercial product. On the contrary, Huawei, Motorola, and Samsung Electronics have brought several devices to the market.
Leaks coming today show that the company is working on more than one foldable screen phone. However, there is no information about the technical features of the Mi Mix 4 Pro Max, which is thought to be the company’s first foldable screen phone.
Estimates about the device are that the Mi Mix 4 Pro Max will get its power from the Snapdragon 888 chipset. In addition, it seems likely that there will be new software changes on the camera side.
