Essential checklist for young businesses launching a mobile app

Over the past few decades, tech-based startups and businesses have come to represent a steadily growing share of the economy. Even traditional companies these days are turning into tech companies, especially by investing in mobile app development. With the expected number of smartphone users to reach around 4.3 billion by 2023, having a mobile app representing your business online is quickly becoming a necessity.

However, both startups and established companies struggle with launching their own mobile apps. Mainly because a lot goes into building a solid app, and organizations lacking any former development experience can easily get overwhelmed by the challenge. Regardless of how sophisticated you would like your mobile app (and your business model) to be, there are almost always a few basic but critical steps that every developer should never miss.

Here is a checklist highlighting these crucial steps companies need to ensure they follow before (and after) launching their apps.

    Checklists for Launching Mobile apps:

    Market research

Before you begin hiring devs, allocating a budget for the project, putting down a marketing plan, or basically anything even remotely related to building your app, the first and most important thing you’ll need to do is research. Market research is critical because it lets you in on what to expect from your app. Based on how good (or bad) your competitors within the space are doing, you’ll get an idea of the standard of quality you’ll have to deliver and the ROI you can expect in return. Market research also allows you to better gauge the opportunities within the market; it’ll help illuminate what gap your product can fill and identify your target audiences.

    MVP and prototypes

Speaking of judging market opportunities, the next step is building an MVP. Launching MVPs is a tried and tested way to test a product/idea’s potential as well as judging the audience’s response to it. MVPs are generally a barebone version of the product that only delivers the core functionality of the promised product. Being minimal allows your mobile app MVP to be developed and deployed quickly without taking significantly fewer resources than building a finished product. This allows your app MVP to be quick to the market. Still, the biggest advantage of launching a minimum viable app is that it lets you collect valuable customer feedback early on during the development, which can be incredibly good for your app’s success.

    Feedback channels

To take advantage of all the feedback your MVP might generate, it is crucial to establish clear and accessible feedback channels. Beyond that, when users fail to find reliable feedback channels, they end up posting their feedback along with their review of your app, which can be detrimental to your app’s success if the feedback is negative. For this reason, successful mobile app development companies USA and worldwide often go the extra mile in trying to establish reliable in-app feedback channels to understand better what their users want. A good feedback system is designed to be intuitive and promotes communication between the brands and the customers. You want your users to feel like they are heard, and you need to implement what your community asks for if you want them to believe you. Anything ranging from in-app feedback forms to reaching out to your users on social media can work out provided the channel is accessible, and the feedback is received well.

    Analytics

Apart from tracking how your users feel about your app, you’ll also need to track how your app performs. Tracking for major performance KPIs like user retention and engagement, crash reports, and in-app bugs will be very important for companies trying to improve on their apps. The best approach is to develop an analytics strategy and implement the required mobile analytics platform accordingly. It helps to focus on a few key metrics that are the most relevant to you as per your strategy and focus and improve on them.

    Testing

And finally, you’ll have to extensively test your app to ensure that it is devoid of any major issues or Bugs. Testing can be challenging and demanding, but it is advised you spend as much time and attention as possible ridding your app of any imperfections. Testing happens in various phases, from testing your app’s documentation to its UI and everything in between. You’ll have to ensure that your app delivers what it promises in the most user-friendly and intuitive manner, all the while being compatible with various devices, platforms, and other apps whenever necessary.

    Marketing strategy

After putting in all this time and money into building your app, you also need to ensure it gets the attention it deserves. A well-thought-out marketing strategy specifically designed to attract the app’s core audience is a must, especially in today’s ultra-competitive markets. Do not shy away from adopting a multi-channel marketing approach, banking on not just social media and ads but even non-traditional marketing tactics like launching a podcast. Maybe even A/B test your marketing campaign or try some guerilla marketing if you are on a tight budget. The point is not to ignore your app’s marketing, thinking google ads are going to cut it. You’ll need a clear strategy and will have to utilize multiple tools and channels to market your app in a way that synergizes with your brand image.

    Online Presence

And finally, you’ll need some online presence where users can find out more about your app and your brand. Design a landing page or even a website and use it to showcase your app’s features, solve customer FAQs, and communicate your brand’s philosophy. Having an online presence is a great way to build a relationship with your audience as it allows you to communicate with your user more effectively. Starting a blog around your app and its niche is also a great way to communicate the value your app brings and shed some light on the new features and bug-fixers you roll out with new app updates.

    Conclusion

The above checklist is by no means an exhaustive list, but it’s an excellent place to start when focusing on the essentials of launching a mobile app. While you’ll have to do a lot more when it comes to driving your app to success, you certainly cannot skip on anything that has been mentioned above.
