Design
Packed in an aluminum housing, the JIRENO CUBE4 feels sturdy. Like most projectors, the CUBE4 is a bit cumbersome. Weighing in at about five pounds, picking it up feels like holding a toaster. The only handles are an attachable set of leather straps that are used as handles. The strap went fine and it is more than capable of supporting the weight of the projector. I carried and hung it around the house with no problems. At the top of the box is the power button; it’s a little hard to notice at first, but you won’t lose sight of it after that. The holder is nicely concealed at the bottom of the CUBE 4. This projector hits the minimalist aesthetic pretty well; all functions are unobtrusive and flush with the housing. The Jireno Cube 4 is a dark metallic gray and black box that measures 7.4 x 7.6 x 4.8 inches. It sports an orange strap handle and black metal grilles on the front and back.
Display
The Cube 4 achieves a screen resolution of 1920x1080p and, according to Jireno, can project a screen size of up to 200 inches. Those measurements come with a warning; after a certain point, the image quality starts to drop noticeably. It starts to get muddy around 100-inches but remains perfectly viewable for the entire distance advertised. It only annoyed me when I got close to the projection. It is well suited for outdoor viewing.
Hardware
As for its internal hardware, As for the chipset, we have one Amlogic T972 which allows smooth operation with its 2GB of RAM and 16GB of memory. Combined with a powerful chip and JI-OS operating system that allows the projector to handle even the most demanding tasks. Another strong point is the brightness, which reaches 500 ANSI Lumen, which allows you to obtain excellent vision without problems with a maximum resolution of the projection image up to 200 inches.
Audio
On board, the Jireno Cube 4 are two 5W speakers with Vidu audio technology, which uses two built-in 5W speakers with matched membranes, stimulates the spatial sound effect of a larger cavity, and performs very well in high and mid-ranges with nice depth and reasonable bass works.
Features
Once set up, you’ll have access to the CUBE4’s built-in Android TV. As you might expect, it has all the apps and games you’d find on a TV, like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Google Play Movies & TV. Although I don’t use this projector in broad daylight, the image looks sharp in most settings. Brightness tends to soften the image, but the lens quality and autofocus do a decent job of getting the most out of a bad situation.
Connectivity
The projector connects to both 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi. Just make sure you go into settings and turn off mouse mode as this will speed things up. The remote control will work faster once you have done this. If you feel like it, you can plug in a wireless keyboard or even a USB keyboard and fly around setting it up. Overall, Android TV’s interface is user-friendly and allows you to download and set up all your streaming services and media apps like Pandora or Spotify.
Verdict
If you’re looking for a quality home theater or outdoor home theater solution and are on a budget, the Jireno Cube 4 is the portable projector you should seriously consider. Thanks to the Android TV software, you can enjoy the same experience as on most Smart TVs. So far the Jireno portable projector looks like a win, but in a few months we’ll be using this bad boy in our garden and I’ll have a full review in the spring.
