Nokia X30 and G60 5G Released: With Snapdragon 695

HMD Global announced at IFA 2022 that it is vigorously promoting sustainable development – its new equipment is made with recycled materials, and the company also launched a new circular subscription to extend the life of the equipment and reduce people upgrading. e-waste generated. HMD also launched new Nokia X30 5G and G60 5G phones.

Nokia X30

The metal frame of the latest X-Series models is made from 100% recycled aluminum, while the plastic back is made from 65% recycled material. Even the retail box is made from 70% recycled paper (all FSC certified). Of course, the charger is no longer included in the box, making it smaller and easier to transport.

The Nokia X30 5G phone features a 6.43-inch AMOLED display with an FHD+ panel (20:9) with a 90Hz refresh rate and a typical brightness of 450 nits (700 nits peak). Covered with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. The phone features under-display fingerprint recognition and face unlock.

The rear camera also has Corning Gorilla Glass DX+ protection. Features a 50MP main camera (1/1.57 inch, 1.0µm native pixels, 4-in-1, with OIS) and a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera (123°, 1/3.06 inch). The selfie camera uses a 16MP sensor (1.0µm native pixels, also supports 4-in-1).

The Nokia X30 5G is powered by the Snapdragon 695 chip and uses a 6nm process. There are two configurations to choose from: 6GB+128GB and 8GB+256GB (UFS 2.2 storage).

The X30 has what HMD calls a “3-3-3 commitment” — 3 OS updates, 3 years of security patches, and a 3-year extended warranty. The phone comes pre-installed with Android 12, so it can be upgraded to Android 15. Furthermore, all personal data is stored on servers located in Hamina, Finland, and is subject to strict EU regulations.

The phone has a built-in 4200mAh battery with 33W charging power (USB-PD 3.0 PPS). The battery is expected to retain most of its capacity after 800 cycles. In terms of connectivity, there’s support for USB-C 2.0, 5G (sub-6GHz) and dual nanoSIM (and available eSIM), Wi-Fi 6(ax), Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, and an IR transmitter. The dustproof and waterproof rating of the phone body is IP67.

The Nokia X30 5G is available globally starting today, with the base model priced at 530 euros (about 3,662.3 yuan) and available in cloudy blue or ice white.

Nokia G60 5G

This is yet another 5G-ready G-series model that also takes recycling seriously 100 percent of the plastic back panel and 60 percent of the plastic frame are recycled. Also comes with a “3-3-3” commitment of 3 OS updates, 3 years of security patches, and a 3-year extended warranty.

The Nokia G60 5G phone has a built-in Snapdragon 695 chip, but the memory configuration is more modest, including 4GB+64GB, 4GB+128GB, and 6GB+128GB (UFS 2.2). Those who need more storage space can use the MicroSD slot.

The Nokia G60 5G phone is equipped with a 6.58-inch FHD+ LCD display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. But brightness is typically 400 nits and peaks at 500 nits, with older Corning Gorilla Glass 5. In addition, the front waterdrop 8MP camera (0.64µm pixels, 4 in 1). Rear 50MP main camera (1/2.67-inch, 0.64µm pixels, 4-in-1), ultra-wide-angle camera 5MP (1/5-inch). There is also a depth camera.

The battery capacity of the machine is 4500mAh (rated for 800 cycles), but the charging speed is slower, with a maximum of 20W (USB-PD 3.0). In some markets, this model will ship with a 20W charger.

This 5G phone supports a hybrid dual SIM slot – you can have two nano sims or one SIM + one microSD. An eSIM is still an option, so it’s possible to have both extra storage and a second phone line. Connectivity supports USB-C 2.0, Wi-Fi 6 (ax), Bluetooth 5.1 and NFC. The phone is only IP52 rated, which means it can withstand drops but not submersion like the X30. The Nokia G60 5G starts rolling out today, starting at 320 euros (about 2211.2 yuan).

The recurring subscription service is a new way to use select Nokia phones and tablets. With a series of eco-friendly incentives, users can use their devices longer. However, if the user happens to break or lose the device, HMD will quickly provide a replacement device without any additional monthly fee.

After a few years of use, the user can send the device back and HMD will take care of it – for refurbishment and resale, or, no longer for sale, choose to donate, etc. It will also be recycled eventually.
