Samsung has Dropped the S Pen Slot from its Galaxy Z Fold 5 due to Thickness Issues

Samsung has finally dropped plans to include the S Pen in its new foldable phone to be released in the second half of this year, mainly because of the impact on interior space.

Since Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold in 2019, users have mostly indicated a need for the S Pen, but Samsung didn’t actually introduce it until the 2021 Galaxy Zfold 3.

However, unlike the Galaxy Note, which doesn’t have a built-in slot, you have to buy and store the S Pen separately, so demand for the S Pen has been steadily increasing.

A built-in S Pen itself is possible due to the high technical threshold, but the phone would also be thicker and not worth the loss, the sources said.

Of course, there is another way to make the pen thinner, but then the writing experience of the stylus is worse, and the rising cost is also a burden.

Samsung Electronics is said to be developing technology that could improve the writing experience while making the pen thinner. “It is difficult to install the S Pen because the hinge structure of the new folding product has changed and the internal space structure has also changed,” said an industry source close to the matter.

As previously reported by The Pixel, Samsung has internally begun testing the Galaxy Z Fold 5, a foldable model that will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon flagship chip. The mystery chip uses a 4nm process, which could be Samsung’s custom CPU for a foldable device.
