The announcement of the release time for the new Huawei phone during the “May 1st” holiday came as a surprise to many. Huawei Mobile, the overseas account of the company, announced that it will release the Huawei P60 series along with other flagship products overseas on May 9, 2023. It is interesting to note that the overseas version of the P60 is expected to be equipped with the EMUI 13 operating system instead of HarmonyOS 3.1, which is used in the National Bank version. EMUI 13 was released in October last year, and it comes with several new features such as icon swipe-up gestures (similar to Hongmeng service cards), large folders, allowing widgets to stack, super terminal, super storage, cross-screen sharing, and more. The overall experience of EMUI 13 is said to be similar to HarmonyOS 3.
After the domestic release of the Huawei P60 series, He Gang, the chief operating officer of Huawei’s terminal business, commented that it took a year and a half from the P50 to the Mate 50. However, after the official release of the Mate 50 in September last year, within half a year, Huawei made a breakthrough despite the many difficulties, constraints, sanctions, and challenges it faced. The release of P60 this spring marks the return of normal product delivery for the company.
He Gang also made a bold statement regarding the competition in the high-end mobile phone market. He said that Huawei may be the only company that can compete with Apple in this field. Hence, in the high-end market, Huawei should still be the strongest.
