It’s March now, and a whole slew of Ultra models are about to drop, but I took the contrarian approach and used a Pro model, the Vivo X200 Pro.
Also as a “big cup” model, it inherits not only the imaging strength of the previous generation but also takes the lead in the Dimensity 9400 chip, which continues to achieve a performance-imaging balance. So how does this phone perform after a month of use? Here, I am sharing my detailed experience.
Design
Glancing at the design of the vivo X200 Pro, I was left with three words: “stunning”. I got the “Sapphire Blue” version, it gives people a peaceful and profound feeling.
Both the back panels of the fuselage adopt floating light glass technology, and the light and shadow on the surface flow like the ripples on the sea. The transparent gem-like luster can be appreciated as it is rotated slightly in the sun. This design clearly takes precise craftsmanship support, and laser engraving technology is the secret here to achieve this effect.
It has an all-new water-ripple cloud-step design. The camera module area also echoes, such as the 2.5D gem textured lens and “sun-ring cloud-step” stainless steel, both of which not only add to the aesthetics but also distinguish the identity of the imaging flagship.
In terms of the whole design, the vivo X200 Pro inherits the design language of the X series but is optimized in more detail. Such as the front is upgraded to an immersive full-depth micro-quad-curved screen design, combined with a soft metal middle frame and agility, which not only makes the hand feel significantly softer but also makes it effective to avoid the problem of accidental touch.
The peak brightness of this super retina 8T eye-protection screen is up to 3000 nits, which allows it to show content clearly under strong light.
In addition, vivo also adopted 2160Hz full-brightness high-frequency PWM dimming technology on the screen. So, after long-term use, you won’t feel tired.
Cameras
Imagingg has always been the core competitiveness of the vivo X series. The X200 Pro, as the successor of the ”imaging Thanos”, will naturally not disappoint.
For this round, vivo layered the X200 Pro with a new LYT818 sensor and precision leap tech This combination helps to correct and compensate for offset light by predicting the light position on the sensor significantly improving the image quality.
While the telephoto lens inherits the 200-megapixel lens of the X100 Ultra, and the overall sensors have reached professional camera standards in terms of detail capture and color reproduction, the telephoto lens has also passed the Zeiss APO certification. Since this telephoto lens excels resistance in distant scenes, either the morning fog or the lights of the city at night, it will easily capture the beauty of the details.
With the help of AI algorithms, vivo X200 Pro also achieved a qualitative leap in image processing. The V3+ imaging chip adopts a multi-concurrent AI perception-ISP architecture, which has not only reduced power consumption in algorithm performance by nearly 50% but also provides seamless collaboration between SoC and imaging chip.
I think it’s great fun shooting a complicated scene because it helps the user experience run smoothly. From shooting 4K cinematic portrait videos to capturing different scenes, the X200 Pro can deal with it all.
This phone’s performance is quite stable in actual shooting. In a bright light environment, the X200 Pro can restore the true colors, and the colors are high enough to make the picture layers clearer. In night scene mode, the glare control of the sample is very good, and the picture purity is extremely high, relying on the support of Zeiss T* coating.
Performance
Performance-wise, you get the first phone powered by the Dimensity 9400 flagship processor — the vivo X200 Pro. The chip is based on TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process and adopts a full-core architecture design. Simultaneously, it significantly also increases computing efficiency and processing speed by expanding the cache sizes.
I have used it for daily operations, and run a lot of the bigger games, since I have done that I can say that the X200 pro performance is quite smooth. In the running score test we run, the score of this phone is as high as 2.93 million, of which the improvement of the GPU section is particularly obvious, and also shows good graphic processing and gaming performance.
For more performance verification, we also took it into the high-load game “Honkai Impact 3”. The X200 Pro can run stably in high-definition + 60 frame mode, with an average frame rate of 59.8 frames. The overall temperature of the machine is well-controlled, and long-term use will not cause the machine to heat up significantly.
Battery
Battery life is an important consideration for super users. The vivo X200 Pro is equipped with a 6000mAh large-capacity built-in battery, of which the new blue ocean battery technology achieves higher energy density through refined optimization of the battery structure. Simultaneously, the X200 Pro supports 90W wired and 30W wireless fast charging, giving a big boost to charging efficiency.
In our 5-hour heavy-duty battery life test, the phone did fine, still having 74% left over — an amount that’s able to power through a day of high-intensity use. 30 minutes is enough to charge it from 0% to 71% (charging test), significantly saving waiting time.
Verdict
This exquisite design, powerful imaging capability, outstanding performance as well as excellent battery life experience, in just over a month of use have revealed for me what a true all-around flagship vivo X200 Pro.
The phone continues the X series’ leadership in imaging while achieving a comprehensive upgrade in performance, design, and user experience. If you are an imaging enthusiast or have high requirements for high-performance mobile phones, then the vivo X200 Pro is undoubtedly a product worth considering.
