Igeekphone News, November 12th: Technology media Wccftech published a blog post yesterday (November 11th), reporting that Google is collaborating with Qualcomm to develop Android PCS equipped with Snapdragon chips, bringing the Android operating system into the personal computer (PC) field.
Previously, at the Snapdragon Summit, Google executives hinted at this direction of cooperation. A newly leaked list of private Android 16 codes further confirms the plan, showing that Qualcomm has uploaded Android adaptation codes for its Snapdragon chips at the laptop level.
According to the code screenshots exposed by X platform user @Jukanlosreve, the first batch of Android PCS will be equipped with the Snapdragon X Elite chip. Igeekphone quoted a blog post as saying that the Snapdragon X Elite and its sibling X Plus chips were the focus of the market when they were first released. They were the first ARM architecture chips that could run the Windows system smoothly while also balancing powerful performance and high energy efficiency.
Although the Snapdragon X Elite itself has decent performance, for the upcoming Android PCS, this configuration will directly expose them to fierce competition. Currently, Apple’s M5 chip has been released, and Qualcomm’s own Snapdragon X2 Elite series has also been launched.
What is even more challenging is that the M4 Max chip, which Apple is set to release at the end of 2024, has already surpassed Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme in the single-core and multi-core performance tests of Cinebench 2024.
The media believes that in the face of such a powerful rival, if Google fails to set a highly competitive price, its Android PC products are likely to fail at the very beginning of their launch.
