How to Switch to 4G Network Mode on Redmi K90?

With the rapid popularization of 5G networks, the Redmi K90, as a 5G phone that supports dual SIM dual standby, offers users flexible network options. Although 5G networks have advantages such as high speed and low latency, in certain scenarios, such as when there is insufficient signal coverage, low battery power, or data limit, switching to the 4G network mode can actually provide a more stable connection experience. The following will detail three methods for the Redmi K90 to switch to the 4G network mode, helping users adjust flexibly according to their actual needs.

Manually switch through the system settings menu

This is the most common and comprehensive operation method, suitable for scenarios where the 5G function needs to be completely turned off. The specific steps are as follows:
Enter the settings interface: After unlocking the phone, click the “Settings” icon on the home screen, or pull down the notification bar and click the gear-shaped settings button.

    2. Select Network Options: Scroll through the settings list to “Dual SIM & Mobile Network” (for single SIM users, choose “Mobile Network”). If your phone is a dual-SIM dual-standby model, you need to first select the SIM card you wish to adjust (such as SIM 1 or SIM 2).

    3. Turn off 5G function: In the SIM card settings interface, locate the “Network Type Selection” or “Preferred Network Type” option. Click on it and then select “Only 4G/3G/2G” or “4G Network Priority”. For some models, the “Enable 5G” switch may be directly displayed, and simply turning it off will disable 5G.

    4. Verification Settings: After returning to the main screen, check if the network icon in the status bar changes from “5G” to “4G”. If it doesn’t change, you can restart the phone or reinsert the SIM card.
Applicable scenarios: When staying in areas with more stable 4G signal, or when you need to save power and avoid excessive data consumption.

Switch quickly through the shortcut control center

For users who frequently switch between networks, the Redmi K90 offers a more efficient and convenient way, eliminating the need to navigate through the complex settings menu:

    1. Activate the control center: Slide down from the top of the screen to expand the notification bar and the quick settings bar.
    2. Long press the network icon: Locate the icon that shows the current network status (such as “5G” or “4G”), and hold it for approximately 2 seconds to bring up the secondary menu.
    3. Select 4G mode: In the pop-up menu, choose “Only 4G/3G/2G” or “4G priority”. The phone will immediately switch to the 4G network.
Applicable scenarios: Entering underground parking lots or enclosed areas with stronger 4G signals (such as elevators) from 5G coverage zones, or when there is a temporary need to reduce power consumption.

Unlocking Hidden Settings via Developer Mode (Advanced Operation)

Some customized models or system versions may hide the 5G switch. In such cases, the advanced network control permissions can be unlocked through the developer mode:
Enable Developer Mode: Go to “Settings” – “About Phone”, continuously click on “Version Number” 7 times, enter the lock screen password, and the system will prompt “Developer Mode has been enabled”.
    2. Access Developer Options: Return to the main settings interface, then click on “System and Update” – “Developer Options”.
    3. Adjust network mode: In the developer options, locate “5G Network Switch Management” or “Network Mode Selection”, and set it to “Disable 5G” or “Only 4G”.
Notes: This method is suitable for special scenarios where 4G needs to be forcibly locked. However, it is necessary to operate with caution to avoid system abnormalities. If network connection issues occur after the operation, you can restart the phone or restore default settings.

Suggestions for Special Scenarios Adaptation and Optimization

Signal coverage disparity: In areas where 4G network coverage is weak, turning off 5G may result in slower speeds or unstable connections. It is recommended to use this function primarily in scenarios with poor 5G signal, such as indoors, remote areas, or underground spaces.
    2. Traffic Consumption Monitoring: After switching to 4G, some applications may adjust their data loading strategies due to network latency. It is necessary to regularly check the traffic usage to avoid exceeding the limit. For instance, video-based applications may reduce the video quality to minimize traffic consumption.
    3. Battery optimization effect: The power consumption of 5G network is approximately 20% higher than that of 4G. When turned off, it can extend the battery life. However, the actual effect is influenced by factors such as screen brightness and background applications. It is recommended to use it in conjunction with the “power-saving mode” or limit the use of 5G data by background applications.
    4. Re-enable 5G: To restore 5G, simply select “5G/4G/3G/2G automatic selection” in the same settings path or turn on the “Enable 5G” switch. Some models support the “Smart Switching” mode, where the system will automatically balance speed and stability between 5G and 4G.

Through the above methods, users of Redmi K90 can flexibly control the network mode, finding the best balance point between high speed and stability, as well as performance and battery life. Whether it is the 5G scenario that pursues ultimate speed or the 4G demand that emphasizes stability, the network setting function of Redmi K90 can provide precise support.
