Igeekphone News reported on April 13th that according to blogger Smart Pikachu, the Xiaomi 18 Ultra will continue to feature continuous optical zoom, enabling lossless zoom across multiple focal lengths, all achieved through optical direct shooting.
The continuous optical zoom on the Xiaomi 17 Ultra has received high praise. It is equipped with a 1/1.4-inch large sensor telephoto lens and features a 3G + 5P dual floating lens group design.
Supports continuous optical zoom ranging from 75mm to 100mm (covering four major golden portrait focal lengths of 75mm, 85mm, 90mm, and 100mm), without any digital cropping. Each photo is captured directly at 200 million pixels.

Xiaomi previously stated that this is the most complex mobile phone telephoto structure to date. It is unprecedentedly requiring three sets of lenses: the first set is responsible for providing the basic optical focal length, the second set is for zooming, and the third set is for focusing and optical compensation.
The spacing between the three groups needs to be perfectly coordinated in order to achieve high-resolution imaging throughout the entire zooming range and across the entire focusing area.
The number of its components has increased by approximately 40% compared to the previous generation. However, because one lens achieves the functions of two lenses, the overall volume has decreased, resulting in a 12% reduction in the thickness of the entire machine and a slight reduction in the size of the Deco.

As the second-generation model, the telephoto lens assembly of Xiaomi 18 Ultra is expected to undergo further upgrades, exploring a smaller size while achieving a balanced experience. It is definitely worth looking forward to.
