Igeekphone reported on May 20th that at today’s 2026 Google I/O Developer Conference, Google released the Wear OS 7 smartwatch platform. The new version is more intelligent and efficient compared to the previous version, with a focus on optimizing battery life and enhancing the intelligent interaction experience.
In terms of battery life, Google officially stated that for watches upgraded from Wear OS 6 to Wear OS 7, the battery life can be improved by up to 10%.
In terms of intelligence, Google has confirmed that some of the watches to be released in 2026 will be equipped with Gemini Intelligence to perform intelligent agent tasks. However, Google has not yet disclosed more details about the list of devices and their functions.

iGEEKPHONE Note: Gemini Intelligence is an intelligent capability set developed by Google based on the Gemini model. It not only focuses on answering questions, but also includes understanding instructions, invoking applications, and completing multi-step tasks.
When applied to the smartwatch context, it is more like an intelligent assistant capable of performing tasks, suitable for voice control, exercise tracking, and various light and frequent services.
However, Google’s relevant statement indicates that Wear OS 7 goes beyond being merely a basic voice assistant and instead moves towards a more proactive and executable intelligent experience.
In terms of the automated experience, Google Wear OS 7 can also reduce the frequency at which users have to take out their phones, serve as a cross-device task entry point, initiate and track the automated processes of “some mobile applications”, and complete operations such as ordering takeout.
For developers, Google has recently launched the AppFunctions API. This interface enables developers to integrate assistants or agents such as Gemini into their applications.
The official example shows that users only need to say “Start recording my running” to Gemini, and the system can then activate the running tracking function through Samsung Health.
