According to Bloomberg, recently, the new Apple TV set-top box and the HomePod mini hardware have been completed. They will focus on upgrading the chips to support the new AI functions related to Apple Intelligence.
The report states that the hardware testing for the new Apple TV and HomePod mini had already begun internally at Apple’s Cupertino headquarters several months ago.
The release dates of the two new devices were previously postponed for several months. The main reason was that Apple planned to release them simultaneously with its repeatedly delayed new Siri and Apple Intelligence software updates.
In terms of hardware specifications, the key change for the new Apple TV is the upgrade of the processor to replace the existing A15 chip. The appearance will continue to follow the current industrial design, while the remote control may only undergo internal adjustments.
The long-awaited new HomePod mini also focuses on internal iterations. It will upgrade from the S5 chip to the S10 chip used in Apple Watch. The CPU/GPU performance will increase by approximately 50%, and the computing power of the neural network engine has also been significantly enhanced to meet the computing requirements of the new generation of AI systems.
Wi-Fi has been upgraded from the 4th generation to Wi-Fi 6E, which supports the 6GHz frequency band. The connection speed and anti-interference ability have significantly improved. The Bluetooth version has also been upgraded from 5.0 to 5.3, and with the second-generation UWB ultra-wideband chip, the experience of device relay and seamless music switching will be smoother.
In addition, the HomePod mini2 has redesigned the full-range driver unit, significantly improving both the low-frequency depth and the mid-high-frequency resolution; the microphone array has also been optimized, resulting in higher accuracy in recognizing voice commands in noisy environments.
