iQOO 16 May Debut Q4 Gaming Chip With Console-Level Ray Tracing on Mobile

    September 3, 2026

The upcoming iQOO 16 is shaping up to be one of the most gaming-focused flagship phones of the year. According to Chinese blogger WHYLAB, the device is expected to debut iQOO’s new self-developed Q4 gaming chip, which could bring more advanced lighting and ray-tracing effects to mobile games.

The new chip is reportedly designed to provide enough computing power for full-scenario hardware-level ray tracing. iQOO is also said to be working with game developers to bring the technology to a range of popular mobile titles.

If the claims prove accurate, the iQOO 16 could push mobile graphics closer to the type of lighting effects traditionally associated with gaming consoles and PCs.

Q4 Chip Targets More Realistic Mobile Graphics

The Q4 gaming processor is expected to be the central part of iQOO’s new visual technology strategy.

According to the report, the chip supports virtual point light sources combined with HDR effects. This combination is intended to reproduce lighting conditions that have generally required more powerful console or PC hardware.

In supported games, lighting could respond more dynamically to the environment. For example, sunlight passing through trees could create changing patches of light and shadow, while objects such as weapons and clothing could reflect surrounding light more naturally.

The company has reportedly indicated that many popular games will support the new technology, although the exact list of compatible titles has yet to be confirmed.

iQOO has also previously highlighted an 8K game screenshot mode for the upcoming phone, along with customizable image-quality parameters. These features suggest that the manufacturer is trying to give users more control over how mobile games look rather than simply increasing raw performance.

Hardware Ray Tracing Comes to More Scenarios

Beyond individual lighting effects, the iQOO 16 is expected to support hardware-level full-scenario ray tracing.

Ray tracing calculates how light interacts with objects and surfaces, allowing games to reproduce reflections, shadows and illumination more realistically. On the iQOO 16, the technology is reportedly handled at the hardware level to reduce the performance and power costs associated with software-based approaches.

The expected result is more natural transitions around shadows, better environmental reflections and more convincing lighting during gameplay.

Power efficiency is another important part of the claim. Compared with traditional mobile GPU solutions, iQOO says its new approach can improve energy efficiency while maintaining more advanced visual effects.

For gamers, that could be more meaningful than graphics quality alone. A powerful gaming phone needs to maintain sustained performance without excessive heat or battery drain.

New Snapdragon Platform Could Push Performance Further

The Q4 chip will not be working alone.

The iQOO 16 is also expected to be among the first smartphones to use Qualcomm’s sixth-generation Snapdragon 8 Super Elite mobile platform. The new processor reportedly introduces a 2+3+3 Oryon CPU architecture, replacing the previous generation’s 2+6 configuration.

According to the current leak, the CPU consists of:

    • 2 performance cores clocked at up to 5.01GHz
    • 3 large cores running at up to 4.03GHz
    • 3 medium cores reaching up to 3.74GHz
    • Adreno 850 GPU

The headline figure is the reported 5.01GHz maximum frequency. For comparison, the previous fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite platform reportedly reached 4.6GHz on its highest-performance cores.

If confirmed, crossing the 5GHz mark would represent a notable increase in peak smartphone CPU frequency and could give the iQOO 16 substantial headroom for demanding games and other intensive workloads.

2nm Process Could Make It a Major Efficiency Upgrade

The new Snapdragon platform is also rumored to be manufactured using TSMC’s 2nm N2P process.

That would be particularly significant for the iQOO 16, as the phone could become the first iQOO flagship based on a 2nm mobile platform.

A more advanced manufacturing process can potentially improve the balance between performance, power consumption and thermal output. That matters especially for gaming phones, where processors are often pushed at high loads for extended periods.

However, the final manufacturing process and specifications should still be treated as unconfirmed until Qualcomm, iQOO or another official source provides more details.

What the iQOO 16 Could Mean for Mobile Gaming

The iQOO 16 appears to be taking a two-chip approach to gaming performance: the Snapdragon platform would provide the primary CPU and GPU performance, while the proprietary Q4 chip could focus on specialized graphics processing and visual effects.

That combination could allow iQOO to improve image quality without relying entirely on the main mobile GPU.

The potential support for hardware ray tracing, HDR-enhanced lighting, virtual light sources and 8K game screenshots makes the device particularly interesting for mobile gamers who care about graphics quality.

At the same time, the reported 2nm platform could help address one of the biggest challenges facing high-performance smartphones: maintaining performance while keeping heat and power consumption under control.

iQOO 16 Expected to Arrive This Month

The iQOO 16 is currently expected to make its official debut later in September.

For now, the Q4 gaming chip, Snapdragon platform, CPU frequencies and 2nm manufacturing process remain based on reported information rather than a complete official specification sheet.

If iQOO confirms these details at launch, the iQOO 16 could stand out as a flagship designed specifically around the next stage of mobile gaming graphics, combining dedicated visual processing with a new-generation Snapdragon platform.
