Epomaker stands as a prominent name in the keyboard industry, yet their Epomaker Carbon60 model distinguishes itself for a somewhat unexpected reason. While the market has approached a plateau in terms of groundbreaking design innovations, the Carbon60 has redefined competition by introducing an entirely new category: keyboards crafted with carbon fiber construction.
Portability in keyboards often forces users to sacrifice either performance or aesthetics—a compromise that has long been accepted. However, the Carbon60 challenges this norm, positioning itself as an exemplary portable solution. Its compact 60% layout and ultra-lightweight build set a new standard for ease of mobility. Upon handling the keyboard, its featherlight design immediately stands out, making it remarkably effortless to transport without compromising on functionality or visual appeal.
Unboxing
Packaged in a minimalistic blue-themed box, the package favors function over flair. The cardboard feels robust though, and the unboxing doesn’t have that premium experience some might expect at this price-point. The inside includes the essentials: user manual, USB-C cable, keycap puller, and 2.4 GHz dongle. What’s conspicuously missing, however, is any sort of protective sleeve or case — a missed opportunity, considering the lightweight design of the keyboard and how it could easily get scratched when on the go.
The Epomaker Carbon60s is fine and functional, but a little more thought could have been given to the first impression. With that in mind, the keyboard itself excels where it counts, combining novel materials with solid performance.

Design
The Epomaker Carbon60–stands out as one of the best, and its extremely light structure is likely a key ingredient in its success. At just 500 grams, it is one of the lightest keyboards in its class — almost three Fig 2. It weighs about 1.5 kg less than a typical Dell keyboard. This stems from an important material choice — its carbon fiber casing, which greatly increases robustness whilst also significantly improving portability.
The 60% layout strikes a good compromise between the need for a numpad and maintaining a compact form, while its customizable RGB lighting fits in with modern aesthetics around sleek, multifunctional consumer peripherals.
Benefiting from an QMGD (Quality, Mini, Green, DSA) style and a low profile structure, the Carbon60 has a reduced gap between key travel distance and typing noise through the use of Gateron switches and DSA keycaps. It trades the sleek lines and sharp angles of gaming headsets for a clean, minimalist design that makes it perfect for productivity users looking for a comfortable, portable typing experience.

The Epomaker Carbon60 features ABS plastic keycaps, which are more cost-effective to produce compared to PBT alternatives but generally regarded as less durable and more susceptible to developing a shiny, worn appearance over extended use. The lettering on each key is prominently centered and bold, though a minor inconsistency was noted: the numeral “4” appears slightly compressed compared to other keys, though this is a trivial aesthetic detail. The keycaps adopt a low-profile DSA design, characterized by a uniformly flat top surface and gently curved edges. Both the keycaps and underlying hot-swappable switches can be effortlessly removed using the included puller tool. Beneath the keys, south-facing RGB LEDs ensure consistent backlighting across the board. The slim construction of the keycaps complements the keyboard’s low-profile switches, emphasizing a streamlined aesthetic.
Two Gateron switch options are available for the Carbon60. The reviewed unit includes the Low Brown Switch 2.0—a tactile, 3-pin design with a 55 gf actuation force, 60 gf bottom-out force, 3.2mm total travel, and 1.7mm pre-travel. Alternatively, the Low Red Switch 2.0 offers a linear feel with no tactile bump and a lighter operating force. The Brown variant provides subtle tactile feedback during keystrokes, while the Red prioritizes smooth, uninterrupted motion. Larger keys utilize Cherry stabilizers, contributing to a stable typing experience. While the Browns deliver a satisfying tactile response, personal preference may lean toward linear switches for those accustomed to lighter, frictionless actuation. Overall, the keyboard balances functionality and customization, though switch choice ultimately depends on individual typing preferences.
Connectivity
Epomaker Carbon60 Multiple Modes Connection: wired, 2.4GHz wireless, and Bluetooth. The wired method involves a USB Type-C cable for low latency (Epomaker claims 4ms), tighter gaming or focused work, while the other option allows for a more relaxed typing experience. The included dongle supports wireless 2.4GHz, giving you 10ms latency that strikes a good balance between convenience and performance, but it does mean that you don’t have any onboard storage for the dongle itself, meaning it could get lost fairly easily (certainly seen in the images). The Bluetooth mode, which gets a bitlaggyr (22ms latency), is good enough for casual typing or work use, and you don’t feel lag in it. All types of connection performed robustly in testing, although the lack of a built-in place to put the dongle is a missing practical design touch.
VIA Software
A virtual dimming process using VIA software is needed for customization, and while the installation step is a little tedious, onboard shortcut keys help to set the RGB lighting. Layering the Function key with others lets users regulate brightness, speed, and a cycling through eight dynamic effects — including static shades, reactive keystroke response,s and flowing rainbow waves. The backlighting displays whatever you want with consistent brightness and vibrant color accuracy across its seven presets. Although the software side of personalization is conspicuously absent, those dedicated physical controls work so well, along with the visual execution, that the lighting system shines as a highlight from a productivity and aesthetic standpoint.
Battery
The Epomaker Carbon60 features a 3000mAh battery that provides a rated runtime of 23.6 hours with the backlight on and up to 176 hours without. With the backlight on and during testing, usage was about 25 hours, just over the manufacturer’s estimate.
Battery life is strong, and daren’t be surprised if it lasts longer with the backlight off (but depending on lighting modes, that could affect drain rates). The inner workings of the keyboard show a design that is both considered and designed to be durable.
Verdict
This 60% mechanical keyboard has its pros and cons. The highlight of the unboxing experience is the lightweight yet durable exterior made from carbon fiber. The typing experience on the Epomaker Carbon60 is satisfying, with customizable RGB lighting features and south-facing LEDs for even illumination. Using Gateron Low Switch 2.0 hot-swappable modules, the board has versatility for enthusiasts. Connectivity is available for both wired and wireless modes, allowing portable use. The raindrop keys are capable of catering to tastes, the default blue colour excepted, but Epomaker did include spare monochrome black keys in the package.
But there are compatibility issues with the Carbon60. Users may also be frustrated with onboard storage for the wireless dongle and the sometimes finicky software setup. Its slim profile forgoes tilt or height adjustments and lacks a wrist rest. While marketed as VIA-compatible for key-remapping, finding it to recognize the software was tedious. Also attached is a travel strap in blue, which is functional for travelling but in day to day use was often cumbersome.
At $130, the Carbon60 is a reasonable price for a compact, fully loaded mechanical keyboard. It’s aimed at anyone who values a minimalist, portable design with strong battery life and room for customizability, although ergonomic compromises and minor usability quirks may put some off. All in all, it still represents a fine choice in its class for users who want a bit of style along with its functionality in a simple package.
