Huawei’s upcoming Nova 16 SE has surfaced in newly leaked hands-on images, offering an early look at the smartphone’s refreshed design ahead of its official unveiling. According to images shared by Chinese tipster Super Dimension, the device adopts a redesigned camera layout, introduces a striking new gradient color option, and is expected to feature Huawei’s Kirin 8020 chipset alongside the company’s latest Red Maple Color Camera technology.
Huawei is expected to officially announce the Nova 16 SE during its All-Scenario New Product Launch Event on August 5.

New Camera Design Inspired by Flagship Trends
The leaked images reveal that the Nova 16 SE features a prominent horizontal rectangular camera module on the rear panel. The arrangement of the camera lenses bears similarities to recent flagship smartphone designs, with three large circular lenses positioned within the module.
The back panel also prominently displays both the Huawei and nova branding near the bottom, maintaining the visual identity of the Nova series while introducing a more premium aesthetic.
New Gradient Color Pays Tribute to the Pura 90 Pro Max
One of the most eye-catching aspects of the leak is the introduction of a brand-new gradient color finish.
In addition to traditional black and white variants, Huawei is reportedly preparing a vibrant gradient version that appears to draw inspiration from the Huawei Pura 90 Pro Max, the company’s flagship smartphone launched earlier this year.
The Pura 90 Pro Max introduced the distinctive Orange Sea colorway, featuring a seamless transition from lake blue at the top to warm orange at the bottom. Combined with an industry-first dual-color gradient metal frame, the design created a striking visual effect reminiscent of the ocean meeting the sunset.
The Nova 16 SE adopts a similar design philosophy but with its own interpretation. According to the leaked images, the color gradually transitions from a lighter upper section into a vivid orange finish toward the bottom, giving the device a youthful appearance while maintaining strong visual recognition.
The design also reflects Huawei’s continued interest in gradient finishes, echoing the iconic color treatments introduced during the era of the Huawei P20 and P30 series.

Powered by the Kirin 8020
Internally, the Nova 16 SE is expected to be equipped with Huawei’s Kirin 8020 processor, positioning the smartphone within the upper mid-range segment.
According to previously released performance information, the Kirin 8020 delivers substantial improvements over earlier Kirin platforms:
- CPU multi-core performance improved by 52%
- GPU performance increased by 26%
- NPU (AI processor) performance improved by 128%
These enhancements are expected to provide smoother multitasking, stronger gaming performance, faster AI processing, and improved overall system responsiveness.
Red Maple Color Camera for More Accurate Color Reproduction
Another notable feature expected to debut on the Nova 16 SE is Huawei’s Red Maple Color Camera technology.
Rather than functioning as a conventional camera sensor, the Red Maple Color Camera operates as a multi-spectral sensor designed to analyze ambient light and accurately capture color information within a scene.
By collecting spectral data from the surrounding environment, the system can improve color reproduction and deliver photos with more natural and lifelike tones under a variety of lighting conditions.
This technology has previously appeared in Huawei’s premium devices and now appears to be making its way to the Nova series, bringing flagship-inspired imaging capabilities to a broader audience.

Official Launch on August 5
Huawei is expected to unveil the Nova 16 SE alongside several other new products during its All-Scenario New Product Launch Event on August 5.
While Huawei has yet to officially confirm the smartphone’s full specifications, the latest leaks suggest the Nova 16 SE will combine a refreshed premium design, a distinctive gradient finish, upgraded imaging technology, and the new Kirin 8020 processor to strengthen Huawei’s position in the competitive mid-range smartphone market.
More information, including pricing, regional availability, camera specifications, and additional hardware details, is expected to be revealed during the official launch event.
