On March 13, 2023, DXOMARK released its evaluation data on the front camera of the latest iPhone 14. The device obtained a total score of 144 points, placing it fourth on the front camera ranking. The top three positions were secured by iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and Huawei Mate50 Pro, scoring 145 points. 
According to DXOMARK, the iPhone 14 shares many similarities with the iPhone 14 Pro regarding image quality and photography performance. The camera captures accurate exposure of facial targets and delivers high-quality videos. Its autofocus is precise, and the device offers a wide depth of field. The iPhone 14 produces excellent white balance and lovely skin tones in indoor and bright light environments, making it one of the top smartphones for selfies and video recording.
However, there are some challenges with the device’s camera. In some situations, such as low-light or high-contrast scenes, the iPhone 14 may produce inaccurate skin tones. Furthermore, noticeable sharpness differences can be observed from frame to frame in recorded videos during dynamic activities.
It is important to note that while DXOMARK’s ratings serve as a helpful reference, they do not necessarily reflect consumers’ and manufacturers’ actual experiences with the devices. For instance, the Mi 13 Pro only scored 136 points in DXOMARK’s evaluation, which tied it for the 16th position in the world along with Mi 12S Ultra. Nonetheless, these two models have performed better than their DXOMARK scores regarding word-of-mouth reviews.
In a bizarre incident, DXOMARK even made a mistake by using a picture of the Mi 13 as the picture of the Mi 13 Pro. Thus, while DXOMARK’s ratings provide valuable insights into the performance of devices’ cameras, consumers and manufacturers should not take them too seriously.
