According to 9to5Mac, Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro will feature 4K video recording at up to 120 FPS, based on information from a “reliable source.” In comparison, the current iPhone 15 series supports 4K recording at only 60 FPS.
9to5Mac also mentions that Apple has tested 8K video recording on the iPhone 16 Pro, though it remains unclear if this capability will be included in the final release.
The iPhone 16 Pro is expected to come with a new 48MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, which could allow 8K video recording, as 8K images measure around 35MP. Both the main and ultra-wide-angle cameras will support 8K video at the hardware level, but the 12MP telephoto camera will not. However, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is rumored to feature a 48MP telephoto sensor, potentially making 8K video recording exclusive to the Pro Max. This is similar to last year when the Pro Max’s 5x optical zoom became available on the Pro model this year. The 8K video feature might be reserved for next year’s iPhone.
In addition, 9to5Mac reports that the native camera on the iPhone 16Pro will offer the ability to pause and resume video recording. It will also reduce wind noise in videos and introduce new photography styles. The camera will retain skin tones using machine learning and support both lossy and lossless photos in the JPEG-XL format. The multi-function camera button will integrate with third-party apps, and a new mode will capture spatial photos that can be viewed in 3D on the Apple Vision Pro.
