July 7 – Igeekphone News
New details about Apple’s next-generation iPhone Air 2 have surfaced, revealing several notable hardware upgrades despite the lukewarm market performance of the first-generation ultra-thin iPhone.
According to industry sources, Apple remains committed to the Air lineup even as several Android manufacturers have reportedly abandoned their own ultra-thin smartphone projects.

Apple Continues to Invest in the Air Series
Apple introduced the first iPhone Air in 2025 as its thinnest flagship smartphone, prompting several Android brands to develop competing ultra-slim devices.
However, the ultra-thin smartphone trend failed to gain the traction many companies had anticipated. Despite multiple price reductions, global activations of the original iPhone Air reportedly remained below one million units. Comparable ultra-thin Android models also struggled to attract buyers, leading many manufacturers to reconsider their plans.
According to the report, Samsung has canceled development of a successor to the Galaxy S26 Edge, while Xiaomi reportedly shelved its Xiaomi 17 Air project even after bringing the prototype close to mass production.
iPhone Air 2 Brings Meaningful Hardware Upgrades
Despite the challenging market, Apple is said to be moving forward with the iPhone Air 2, which is expected to feature several significant improvements over its predecessor.

The leaked specifications include:
- 6.55-inch OLED display
- 120Hz refresh rate
- Face ID with 3D facial recognition
- Apple A20 series processor built on a 2nm process
- 48MP primary rear camera
- Dual-camera system
- 3,500mAh battery
Compared with the first-generation iPhone Air, which featured a single 48MP rear camera and a 3,149mAh battery, the new model is expected to offer both improved photography capabilities and longer battery life, while also benefiting from Apple’s next-generation 2nm chipset.
Echoes of the iPhone Mini
Industry observers note that Apple’s Air lineup now faces challenges similar to those encountered by the iPhone mini series.
Although the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini generated considerable excitement ahead of launch, both models ultimately underperformed due to concerns over battery life and their premium pricing.
Analysts believe the long-term future of the Air series may depend heavily on the commercial success of the second-generation model.
If iPhone Air 2 fails to significantly improve sales, Apple could discontinue the lineup altogether, much as it did with the iPhone mini series.
As with all early leaks, Apple has not officially confirmed these specifications, and the final hardware and launch plans could change before the device is announced.
