Oneplus 3 Dash Quick Charge vs OPPO VOOC Review

Since Oneplus released Oneplus 3, it has enjoyed full of controversy about its Dash quick charge. This smartphone is powerful in its rapid performance, quick photography taking, quick fingerprint ID and quick charge. Oneplus 3 has been compared with Samsung Galaxy S7, but it failed although it comes with Snapdragan 820 processor, RAM 6GB ROM 64GB UFS 2.0. The real reason is that Oneplus 3 has strict management about storage, not allowing too many apps running at the same time, it needs to reload the apps. After this, Oneplus has improved its management about its internal storage and make it successful.  But we have the other question about Dash quick charge. So we will introduce you how is this dash quick charge!

Oneplus 3 is the first time to use DASH quick charge technology, adopting low voltage high current solution, supporting 5V/4A Quick charge. In theory, it has the same as VOOC from OPPO. But oneplus claims it is Dash quick charge technology authorized by OPPO  VOOC. From the brands, they are different But we can treat Dash quick charge is the same as VOOC one, and oneplus has also added USB Type C port.

This time we also use Oneplus 3 Dash charge to compare with Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. And this test can be divided into three parts, screen-off charging, screen-on charging, and charging when playing games.

First, in the screen-off charging test, we can see the curved line, whether Oneplus 3 or Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, they both charge very fast in the first 30 minutes, and then become stable,  and we can see the result in the first 20 minutes. Oneplus 3 takes 78 minutes to charge full and S7 Edge, 99 minutes.

Second, in the screen-on charging test, Oneplus 3 has shown its advantage, it can be charged full in 85 minutes, but S7 Edge needs 200 minutes.

Third, in the playing games and charging at the same time, we only test the first 30 minutes comparison, Oneplus 3 has won the victory in this round  again. They have even 20% battery gap.

Why do big gap they have?

By this three stage test, there is no big gap during the stage of screen-on or screen off charging test. But in the third test, they show obvious gap in phone charging due to two different quick charge.

Oneplus 3 uses the low voltage and high current quick charge technology, charging voltage keeps 5V, but its charging current is up to 4A, the advantage of this technology is that charging voltage is similar to battery voltage, 4V, so they will not change the power consumption to heat due to the high voltage changes to low voltage. Therefore, oneplus 3 can keep the 5V/4A charging speed in any scene, the phone will not be overheating, only happening in the power adapter.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge uses the high voltage and low current quick charge technology, and its charging voltage is up to 9V.  When charging the phone, it will change high voltage to low voltage for power consumption. And these power consumption will change to heat to make smartphone overheating obviously. Due to protecting the battery, it will reduce power when playing and charging at the same time. So it can support common charging. That’s the real reason that Oneplus 3 has obvious advantage when playing and charging at the same time.

Low voltage is better than high voltage?

Since low voltage high current quick charge technology is better than high voltage and low current, why is not popular? The main reason is compatibility problem. Low voltage high current means VOOC or DASH. They need customized power adapter and USB cable to finish quick charge, so they will be inevitable. When i try original Dash power adapter and USB Type c cable to  charge Oneplus 3, it will not enter into quick charge mode. So if we need to enjoy quick charge, we need to use the original power adapter and USB cable, or buy a Dash quick charge on its official website, but VOOC quick charge bundle is cheaper than that of oneplus. There will no limits under high voltage low current, and power adapter of different brands’ quick charge can be used mixed.

    Conclusion

Oneplus 3 Dash Quick charge and OPPO VOOC quick charge have its both advantage. But one thing can be confirmed that Oneplus 3 Dash quick charge can make phone charge fast and control overheating problem well. So what others do you need?
