On November 13th, Igeekphone reported that OpenAI officially launched the GPT-5.1 model. This update centers on the “deep integration of intelligence quotient and emotional quotient”, optimizing reasoning capabilities while enhancing the supply of emotional value and personalized interaction experiences, responding to previous users’ feedback that AI is “too tool-like”.
Currently, this model is being gradually rolled out to global users. Paying users can retain the old version of the GPT-5 model for transition within three months.
GPT-5.1 includes two core models, Instant and Thinking, both of which have been optimized specifically.

As the most frequently invoked GPT-5.1 Instant model, it introduces the “adaptive reasoning” function for the first time – when facing complex tasks such as math problems and programming, it actively extends the thinking time to improve accuracy, while maintaining an extremely fast response to simple problems. Its performance has significantly improved in the AIME 2025 math test and Codeforces programming evaluation.

At the same time, the tone of the dialogue is warmer, occasionally showing mischievous traits, and the compliance with instructions has significantly improved.

The higher-order model GPT-5.1 Thinking focuses on efficiency and understandability. It can intelligently allocate thinking time, answer complex tasks more thoroughly, and respond to simple tasks more quickly. Reduce the use of professional terms in the answers, make the explanations of technical concepts more accessible, and use the default tone to enhance empathy as well.

In addition, the GPT-5.1-Auto function can automatically match the most suitable model for users without the need for manual switching.
