REDMAGIC has officially revealed the exterior design of the upcoming REDMAGIC 12 Pro+, which is scheduled to launch in October. While the new gaming phone continues to focus heavily on performance and an uninterrupted display, its design has also received a notable update aimed at improving everyday comfort.
REDMAGIC 12 Pro+ Gets a More Comfortable Design
Previous REDMAGIC gaming phones have generally prioritized performance hardware and a full-screen experience. However, their relatively thick bodies and squared-off frames could make them feel less comfortable during extended use.
The REDMAGIC 12 Pro+ takes a different approach. According to the company, the new model has been made lighter and thinner while adopting more rounded edges. The revised frame should make the phone easier to hold, particularly during long gaming sessions.
This design change is significant because gaming smartphones often need to accommodate larger cooling systems, batteries and other performance-focused components. REDMAGIC is now trying to balance that hardware with a more ergonomic shape.
Ultra-Thin 0.96mm Screen Bezels
The display is another major highlight of the REDMAGIC 12 Pro+.
The company says the new phone has reduced its display border to just 0.96mm, bringing the visible bezel below the 1mm mark for the first time in the series. Combined with an under-display front camera, the design creates a cleaner screen without a traditional punch-hole cutout.
This approach allows the display to occupy more of the front panel while keeping the camera hidden beneath the screen. For gamers, the uninterrupted panel can also provide a more immersive viewing area without a camera cutout interfering with on-screen content.
Ninth-Generation Under-Display Camera Technology
REDMAGIC says the REDMAGIC 12 series will introduce its ninth-generation under-display camera technology globally. Nubia, REDMAGIC’s parent company, has continued to develop under-display camera solutions across multiple generations.
The company is positioning this latest implementation as another step forward for full-screen smartphones. Recent attention around Apple’s rumored under-display camera technologies has also highlighted the broader industry effort to hide front-facing sensors and cameras beneath displays.
However, real-world image quality and display performance will ultimately depend on how well the camera, screen transparency and image-processing technologies work together.
Dual Liquid and Active Air Cooling
Performance remains central to the REDMAGIC 12 Pro+.
The upcoming gaming phone will use a dual cooling system combining liquid cooling with active air cooling. The two systems are designed to work together when the device is under sustained workloads.
During extended gaming sessions, active airflow can help move heat away from internal components while the liquid-cooling system manages heat generated by the processor and other high-performance hardware. Better thermal control can help reduce performance throttling when the phone is subjected to prolonged high loads.
This cooling setup is particularly important for a gaming-focused smartphone, where maintaining consistent performance over long sessions can be just as important as achieving peak benchmark results.
More Performance and AI Features Coming
REDMAGIC has also teased broader software improvements for the new generation. The company says the REDMAGIC 12 series will receive upgrades to its system interface, overall smoothness and AI-related features.
The company has previously described the REDMAGIC 12 series as being designed specifically for gamers, with a focus on improving performance rather than cutting hardware capabilities. REDMAGIC gaming phone product manager Jiang Chao also emphasized the brand’s performance-oriented approach ahead of the launch.
With its slimmer and more rounded body, sub-1mm display bezel, next-generation under-display camera and dual cooling architecture, REDMAGIC 12 Pro+ gaming phone appears to be combining its gaming-focused hardware with a more refined physical design.
The phone is expected to launch in October, with additional specifications, pricing and performance details likely to be revealed closer to the official launch.
