Igeekphone reported on April 2nd that the source @Super_Freak posted a set of renderings of a phone case on Weibo on March 27th, showcasing Sony’s flagship phone Xperia 1 VIII. This might completely change the family-style design style that Sony has adhered to for many years in its phones.
The exposed renderings this time mainly reveal two revolutionary designs: the rear camera has been changed from the traditional vertical arrangement to a square module, while the front camera adopts the first time a punch-hole screen design.
In terms of the rear camera, the Sony Xperia 1 VIII breaks away from the square camera module and adopts a square camera module, which contains three sensors and an LED flash. Moreover, the front of the device also abandons the square bezel design that Sony has adhered to for many years and adopts a front camera with a hole in the screen.

The administrator of the Vietnamese Sony fan community, who has a good track record of providing reliable information, later came forward to confirm that the final production version might differ in some layout details, but it was basically certain that the rear camera configuration would be adjusted.
This major design overhaul is directly attributed to the upgrade of the core hardware. It is reported that the Xperia 1 VIII will be equipped with a very large telephoto lens sensor, whose specifications are far superior to those of the current Xperia 1 VII. To accommodate this ultra-large sensor, Sony must expand the physical space of the camera module.
