Igeekphone News, December 18th: The technology media iphone-Ticker.de published a blog post yesterday (December 17th), sharing a set of CAD renderings showing Apple’s first foldable phone, iPhone Fold, and marking the relevant size information.
Unlike the previously market expectation of a slender body, this set of drawings shows a device with a more “short and plump” shape, which looks like a passport when folded.
Data shows that the width of one side of this machine is 83.8 millimeters and its height is only 120.6 millimeters. The most eye-catching feature is its thickness control: the body is only 4.8 millimeters thick when unfolded, and even when folded, it is only 9.6 millimeters (excluding the protrusion of the camera).
In terms of screen configuration, the exposed CAD drawing shows that the diagonal size of its inner screen is 7.76 inches. Although it is slightly smaller than the 8.3 inches of the iPad mini, the visual experience is already very close. The resolution of its inner screen is as high as 2713×1920, and the pixel density is expected to exceed that of the current iPad mini.
In terms of the outer screen, this device is equipped with a 5.49-inch display with a resolution of 2088×1422. This special aspect ratio design seems to be aimed at ensuring that the inner screen can achieve a display ratio closer to that of a tablet when unfolded, thereby optimizing the split-screen operation and media browsing experience.
To address the common crease issue of foldable screens, the drawing suggests that Apple may have adopted a special hinge design. When closed, the hinge area will have a tiny protrusion of about 1.8 millimeters. This design helps reduce the stress at the screen’s bending point, thereby extending the panel’s lifespan.
In terms of the imaging system, the back continues the rumored “runway” Camera Plateau design of the iPhone Air and is equipped with a dual-camera system, which is contrary to the previous rumor that “the first foldable screen is only equipped with a single camera”. In addition, both the inner and outer screens are equipped with front cameras. The camera on the inner screen is located on one side. It is still unclear whether the Dynamic Island or other solutions will be adopted.
However, the technology media Appleinsider pointed out that although this set of renderings is rich in details, there are still many doubts. For instance, the drawing shows that the speaker openings and the USB-C interface are only distributed on one side of the body. For a high-end “ipad-like” device, the lack of stereo speakers seems unreasonable.
Given Apple’s extremely strict confidentiality towards unreleased products and the fact that the expected release date of 2026 is still far away, the media believes that this set of CAD drawings from accessory suppliers is very likely just engineering placeholder models based on early conjectures rather than the final version.
