It was announced last week that there will be a total of four foldable smartphones from Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi have teamed up in the second half of 2021. It’s worth noting that all of these three brands have yet to introduce their first foldable design, but they’ve patented various designs in the past few months. Now there is a new Vivo Foldable Smartphone with stylus revealed in Patent.
According to LetsGoDigital, Vivo Mobile Communication filed a design patent with WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) in February 2020. This patent, titled “Display Panel and Mobile Terminal”, was approved and published in October 2020. However, the post seems to have found it just now, and they even created 3D renders for rendering.
According to the documentation, this design has an inward folding screen that folds out into a tablet. In other words, it is identical to the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Fold 2. But it has a unique hinge design with a stylus hopper, which is nothing more than a slot in the folding point of the display panel.
Therefore, the included stylus is the same length as the device and has a soft rubber tip to avoid scratching the screen. In addition, it does not fall out of the hopper when placed inside as it remains magnetically attached. You can also replace the damaged part of the stylus.
Apart from the aforementioned details, the patent of the Vivo Foldable Smartphone does not say anything about this design, because it is only about the foldable panel and the stylus. However, vivo may use some of this design in one of its future foldable modules, however, we can’t say for sure as companies file a wide variety of patents every now and then.
