The domestic version continues to use “Xiaomi 17 Ultra by Leica”, while the overseas Leica special edition may be renamed “Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi”.
This media believes that the cooperation between Xiaomi and Leica has deepened from a simple technical collaboration to a deep integration at the brand level. The different models that appear in the GSMA database further confirm this speculation.
Unlike the previous uniform naming, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Special Edition may adopt a differentiated brand strategy based on regions: The “Xiaomi 17 Ultra by Leica” will continue to be launched in the Chinese market, while in the global market, the Leica special edition may be released under the name “Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi”.

In terms of imaging, it is reported that in order to maximize performance within the limited space of the body, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra has abandoned the quad-camera layout of its predecessor and instead adopted a more streamlined and efficient triple-camera system.
Igeekphone, citing a blog post, introduced that the core highlight lies in the fact that the main camera is equipped with a 1-inch OVX10500U sensor (also known as OV50X or Light Hunter 1050U) for the first time. As the latest masterpiece of Holway Technology, this 50-megapixel sensor, with its super-large sensor size, will significantly increase the light intake and dynamic range, ensuring that it can output top-notch image quality with distinct layers and natural blurring even in low-light conditions.
At the telephoto end, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will introduce a 200-megapixel S5KHPE sensor. This high-pixel solution replaces the traditional dual telephoto strategy, aiming to balance the image quality performance of long-distance zoom and hybrid zoom through high-pixel cropping and computational photography techniques.
Xiaomi had previously tested the 50-megapixel S5KJN5 telephoto camera on the 17 Ultra model, but leaked camera kits confirmed that the sensor had been abandoned.
Meanwhile, the front camera has also undergone a significant upgrade, jumping from the mainstream 32 million pixels to 50 million pixels, further meeting the demands for high-quality video calls and ultra-clear selfies.
In terms of performance, the new model is expected to be equipped with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Ultra, the fifth-generation Snapdragon 8. Its powerful ISP (Image Signal Processing) and AI computing power will provide solid support for complex computational photography. It is worth noting that leaked information indicates that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will no longer retain the secondary screen design on the back.
