Xiaomi has confirmed another major camera upgrade for its upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro series, revealing that the new smartphones will debut a Leica dual 200MP camera system.
Lu Weibing, Xiaomi Group Partner and President of the company’s smartphone division and Xiaomi brand, announced the camera setup ahead of the official launch. According to the latest teaser, the Xiaomi 18 Pro series will feature two high-resolution 200MP cameras designed for different shooting scenarios.
Xiaomi 18 Pro Gets Two Large 200MP Sensors
The new camera system combines a 1/1.28-inch large-sensor main camera with a 1/1.56-inch periscope telephoto camera. Both sensors use a 200MP resolution, giving the Xiaomi 18 Pro series a notable hardware upgrade for photography.
The main camera’s 1/1.28-inch sensor is designed to capture more light and detail, while the larger-than-usual 1/1.56-inch periscope telephoto sensor focuses on long-range photography. Xiaomi is positioning the combination as a key part of the phone’s flagship imaging experience.
The use of two 200MP sensors also gives the Xiaomi 18 Pro series a different camera configuration from smartphones that typically reserve their highest-resolution sensor for the primary camera alone.
Leica Imaging Remains a Key Focus
The new camera system is being developed in collaboration with Leica, continuing Xiaomi’s focus on computational and optical imaging for its flagship smartphones.
Xiaomi describes the setup as a Leica dual 200MP ultra-high-resolution imaging system. More details about the lenses, optical zoom range, image processing, and camera modes are expected to be revealed during the official launch.
Xiaomi 18 Pro Series Launch Date
The Xiaomi 18 Pro series is scheduled to launch in China at 7:00 PM on September 23.
Ahead of the launch, Xiaomi has already confirmed several key specifications for the new generation. Alongside the Leica dual 200MP camera system, the phones will feature a 2nm flagship mobile platform, a new-generation M11-emission-system display, an ultra-slim 0.99mm screen bezel design, and Xiaomi’s Jinshajiang battery using a high-silicon material with a reported 32% silicon content.
New Flagship Platform and Display
The Xiaomi 18 Pro series will also debut with a 2nm flagship mobile platform, placing processing performance among the phone’s major upgrades.
On the front, Xiaomi is introducing a new-generation Super Pixel display based on its M11 luminous material system. The company has also highlighted a 0.99mm ultra-narrow bezel design, which should give the display a higher screen-to-body appearance while reducing the visual size of the surrounding frame.
High-Silicon Battery Technology
Battery technology is another area Xiaomi is highlighting for the new flagship lineup. The Xiaomi 18 Pro series will use the company’s Jinshajiang battery, featuring a reported 32% high-silicon content.
Xiaomi has not yet disclosed every battery specification for the series, but the new battery technology is expected to be one of the hardware upgrades accompanying the new 2nm platform and camera system.
Xiaomi 18 Pro Price Expectations
Lu Weibing previously indicated that the new Xiaomi flagship would come with a price increase compared with its predecessor. He also said the company believes the upgraded product positioning and specifications will make the higher price reasonable.
