Xiaomi has opened pre-sales for Xiaomi Smart Door Lock 5 Max, its new flagship smart door lock designed to combine biometric security, AI-powered monitoring and connected-home features. Priced at 3,699 yuan, the new model adds several features that go beyond conventional smart locks, including UWB contactless unlocking, dual cameras and AI-based scene recognition.
The Smart Door Lock 5 Max is designed to do more than simply lock and unlock a door. Its cameras and AI capabilities can monitor activity around the entrance, recognize different situations and send alerts when unusual behavior is detected.
The new model also expands Xiaomi’s smart home ecosystem, connecting access control with cameras, AI recognition and mobile notifications.
UWB Contactless Unlocking and 12 Unlock Methods
One of the key upgrades is UWB contactless unlocking. Xiaomi describes the Smart Door Lock 5 Max as the first product in the industry to offer this type of unlocking with UWB unlocking technology. After pairing a compatible device, users can approach the door without having to manually enter a password or interact directly with the lock.
The lock also supports palm-vein recognition and facial recognition. Xiaomi says its facial-recognition unlocking system has passed security certifications from the National Financial Technology Evaluation Center and the Bank Card Testing Center.
Overall, the Smart Door Lock 5 Max offers 12 unlocking methods, giving users multiple ways to access their home depending on the situation.
Dual Cameras Monitor Both Sides of the Door
Security monitoring is another major focus of the new Xiaomi smart lock.
The exterior side features a 192-degree panoramic fisheye camera designed to provide a wide field of view around the entrance. The facial-recognition system is designed for people between approximately 1.2 and 2 meters tall, with an optimal recognition distance of around 0.4 to 0.8 meters.
The camera can also perform recognition in very dark conditions, allowing the lock to continue monitoring the entrance when there is little or no visible light.
Inside the door, Xiaomi has added a second 152-degree wide-angle camera. This camera can monitor activity around the entry area and record when family members enter or leave without requiring a separate indoor security camera.
AI Large Model Brings Smarter Door Monitoring
The Smart Door Lock 5 Max is also notable for introducing AI large-model capabilities to Xiaomi’s smart-lock lineup.
This approach reflects Xiaomi’s broader push toward AI-powered smart home devices, where connected products can interpret situations instead of simply responding to basic commands.
The system combines local processing with cloud-based computing. Basic scene recognition and responses can be handled locally for faster reactions, while more complicated situations can be analyzed using cloud-based AI models.
This allows the lock to move beyond simple motion detection. According to Xiaomi, it can recognize situations such as people lingering near the entrance, unusual markings or visitors carrying potentially dangerous objects, then send alerts to the user’s smartphone.
The system can also distinguish between different types of visitors, including delivery and food-delivery personnel, and can identify the number of packages they are carrying.
Smarter Recognition of Family Members and Visitors
The AI features are not limited to security alerts. Xiaomi has also designed the lock to help users understand activity involving family members.
For example, the Smart Door Lock 5 Max can provide alerts when children, elderly family members or pets leave the home alone. It can also analyze characteristics of people entering or leaving, helping users understand who has visited the property.
These functions could be particularly useful for households where family members frequently enter and leave at different times.
Voice Messages, Daily Summaries and Searchable Records
Xiaomi has added several software features aimed at making the lock easier to manage.
Users can leave voice messages for family members or visitors before leaving home. Notifications can also be organized into different categories, allowing users to receive more relevant alerts instead of treating every event in the same way.
Another interesting feature is an automatically generated daily summary of activity around the door. The system also supports text-based fuzzy searches through entry and exit records, making it easier to locate a particular event without manually reviewing every notification.
Up to 8 Months of Battery Life
Despite its extensive camera and AI features, Xiaomi says the Smart Door Lock 5 Max can provide up to eight months of battery life under full-feature operation.
The lock uses two independent lithium batteries. If one battery is removed for charging, the other can continue powering the lock and its functions.
For emergencies, Xiaomi has also included a USB Type-C emergency charging port on the side of the device. This provides an additional way to restore power if the main batteries become depleted.
