Smartphone manufacturers are competing with each other and have ambitions to give birth to mobile phones with foldable screens. At the beginning of this year, Xiaomi posted an internet video in which appeared a folding Smartphone and recently, a patent has been published that can give us more information on the improved design of the company’s foldable Smartphone.
In March of this year, Xiaomi filed a patent with EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office), which was published on 5 August 201. Included are 7 sketch drawings showing the device from all sides. Based on EUIPO leakage, technical images show a dual-fold or two folding screen design equipped with three rear cameras.
Just like the model introduced earlier this year, the patented Xiaomi Patented Foldable Smartphone has a large flexible display that you can fold twice.

The first thing that will impress you is the thickness of the device. The dimensions of the sketches have been used to give the most realistic effect possible. However, the foldable phone is significantly thicker than it initially seemed. This can be explained below. Finally, such a device packs several components.
What’s also striking is the back, featuring three cameras perpendicular to each other. Because the cameras are centered, you must first unfold the smartphone fully before you can take pictures. As it is a design patent, the specifications of the sensors that these cameras have are not mentioned.
It will provide a large screen with very small Bezel screens if you fully unfold this phone. There is no visible Selfie camera and whether it will be located behind the screen is unknown. Xiaomi has already said that it is ready to deliver with an in-display camera device, and because the company usually pays close attention to the selfie camera, it will certainly have an implementation that will satisfy its fans.
The back of the housing is slightly curved on all four sides, which ensures a particularly sleek look when folded. There is a USB-C port at the bottom of the device, but the 3.5mm headphone jack seems to be completely missing.
There is also no key in the attached sketches. Buttons were also not visible in the video teaser that Xiaomi had previously published, so it could be a smartphone without any buttons, such as Meitu Zero and Vivo Apex 2019. Also, the fingerprint scanner is not visible in the sketches, so we assume it is located behind the screen.
There are no known specifications for the battery, but since Xiaomi introduced charging technology at 100 Watts in March this year, it could be that this revolutionary phone will have this incredibly fast-charging system. This will make it possible to fully charge a 4000mAh smartphone battery in just 17 minutes.
In addition, it looks like the Xiaomi foldable phone will also have 5G support. Xiaomi has already introduced a 5G smartphone, the Mi Mix 3 5G. In addition, the Chinese manufacturer has already indicated that it wants to introduce affordable 5G smartphones in 2020, making it very likely that the foldable phone will also support 5G.
It is still unknown when Xiaomi will unveil the first foldable Smartphone, but we are sure to see it soon. Perhaps the MWC 2020 is the right time to do so. And if Xiaomi can market its own foldable phone at a reasonable price, eg 1500 euros ($1672) instead of the 2000/2300 euros ($2230/$2564) that its competitors have, then surely the folding Smartphone market will gain new momentum.
As for the name of the folding Xiaomi phone earlier this year, Lin Bin, co-founder and CEO of Xiaomi, announced via Chinese social media that two names are currently being considered – the Xiaomi Dual Flex and the Xiaomi MIX Flex. However, the company was still open to suggestions, so it is likely that the device will be released under a completely different name.
