Living Better: Our 8 Favorite Lifestyle Apps of 2019

Although many people want to make positive changes in their lives, 80 percent of New Year’s resolutions fail, leaving many people to give up.

Are you thinking about making some changes in your life like eating healthier or breaking a bad habit? If you are, using lifestyle apps can help you achieve your goals.

After all, we almost always have our phones with us. Plus, many of these apps are also compatible with smart devices like the Apple Watch. With features like alerts and notifications, you can start making big changes in your life.

Discover our picks for the best lifestyle apps out there to help you reach your goals and live a healthier, happier life.

    1. Shopwell

Are you thinking of changing your diet and eating healthier this year? If you are, you’re not alone. According to a recent survey by Inc. on New Year’s resolutions, 71 percent of people wanted to diet or eat healthier.

Shopwell can help people do that by tracking what you eat and telling you which foods to avoid. It’s a bit like a portable personal dietician helping you out.

You can tell the app if you have a specific intolerance or sensitivity to eliminate certain foods from your diet. For example, you can input that you have a gluten intolerance, high blood pressure, or even type 1 or 2 diabetes.

This free health app even has a helpful scanning feature so you can pull up the nutritional information on any package with a bar code. Shopwell is available for both Android and iPhone.

    1. HabitBull

HabitBull is a mobile app that allows you to enter and track your bad habits. The app lets you view all of your habits along with your streaks with easy-to-read graphs and visuals.

The idea is to keep a streak going until you can successfully break a bad habit. The longer you can keep a streak going, the easier it is to retrain yourself.

This lifestyle app also helps you build positive habits to replace the bad ones. The alerts and reminders make it easy to hold yourself accountable.

HabitBull is available for both iPhone and Android and it’s free to download.

    1. Round Health

Roughly 187 million Americans take at least one prescription drug but about half don’t take those medications as prescribed.

Are you having trouble remembering when to take your medications each day? If you take more than one type, it can be tough to remember what to take and when.

Round Health can help remind you to take both your medications and vitamins. The app organizes your medications and vitamins and sends you reminders on your iPhone or Apple Watch.

Even if you don’t take prescriptions, the app tracks vitamins and supplements, too. For instance, many people take CBD along with prescription medications. If you’re thinking about trying CBD, locate a store near you to pick some up and use this app to remind you to take it daily.

    1. Freedom

If social media sites tend to distract you from work, then you might need to install Freedom. This app and website blocker blocks any digital distraction that you want so you can focus on being productive.

Sometimes, we all need a little help getting back on track and focusing again. Freedom is here to block sites like Facebook or to keep you from checking your instant messages every five minutes.

You get to choose which sites or applications you want to block and you can set permissions or use locked mode if you really need to buckle down. It works across all iOS, Android, Mac, Windows, and Chrome devices. Freedom has yearly subscription plans for $29.99.

    1. Audible

If your resolution is to catch up with your reading list but you don’t have the time, consider subscribing to Audible instead. Audiobooks are a great way to listen to your favorite books and catch up on new titles.

The Audible app is easy to use and has over 180,000 titles to choose from. You have to pay a monthly fee to use it ($14.95), but you get one credit per month to use on a book of your choice. One nice feature is that you get to keep all your audiobooks even if you cancel your subscription.

You can listen using the app on your phone or with a Windows or Mac device.

    1. Headspace

Headspace is a meditation app designed to help you relax both your mind and body. The app is great for people that suffer from stress, anxiety, insomnia, or have trouble concentrating.

Life is stressful and sometimes we don’t think we have the time to relax. But the Headspace app makes relaxing and mediation easy. With features like 2-3 minute mini meditations, even the busiest person can take a moment to unwind.

The app has a free option with limited features and two subscription plans to access all content.

    1. Sleep Cycle

If you’re having a hard time sleeping or feel tired all the time, you need to check out Sleep Cycle.

This innovative app analyzes your sleep schedule and wakes you up at the optimal time (during your light sleep phase). This helps you wake up feeling refreshed and energized.

The app works by using your smartphone to monitor your movements during sleep. You can also view your statistics the next morning and review your stats over time to monitor your sleep quality.

    1. Mint

Did you know that 67 percent of Americans have a budget but 33 percent don’t maintain their budget? Thankfully, budgeting and finance apps make the process simple.

The Mint app helps keep track of your bill due dates and helps you budget for the year ahead. By adding your accounts, Mint can help you to organize your finances. You can also keep track of your investments and keep an eye on your credit score as well.

It has good mobile support and works with the Apple Watch. The tools on the app are easy to use and you can even set alerts and reminders. And the best part is that Mint is free so you can take control of your finances without spending a dime.
