What do movements mean in wristwatches? Pro tips for choosing the right movement’s wristwatch for you

Wearing a wristwatch is passion and fashion both. Normal and fashional users choose a wristwatch by considering the exterior of the watch, but pro and passionate users find what in exterior and also what in the interior such as movements.

A wristwatch is not only for fashion, but it also describes a person’s personality. Along with presenting personality, it also describes the user’s power, success, adventurousness, and consciousness about health.

In this article, I will share some pro and deep movement factors that will help you find the right and pro watch for you that should meet your personality. Here are the pro factors about watch’s movements that you should know before you pick one for you.

    Wristwatch Movements

When you want to consider your watch through its technical factors, then the most important thing comes with its movements. General users think the movement of a watch is its hands inside the watch case. But, the main thing that should mention first for movements is the watch’s inner mechanism.

The inner mechanism of watch movements come in three types, and they are mechanical, automatic, and another is quartz.

    1. Mechanical Movements

The main thing that involves mechanical movements is the mainspring. The mainspring is the coiled wire of metal that is wound by hand. The mainspring gets unwinds slowly and evenly when the mainspring’s wound is done, which forces the second’s hand to move around smoothly and evenly.

The power of the mechanic movement’s watches depends on their mainsprings. The longer the mainspring is, the more power reserver the watch is. Sometimes, it also depends on the mainspring’s quality.

Here are some positive and negative sides of mechanical movent’s watches given below.

    • Mechanical movement’s watches don’t require any battery because they get power from the hand-wound mainsprings.
    • The movements of the hands of mechanical watches are so smooth, and this is one of the best features of mechanical movement’s watches.
    • The mechanism inside of a mechanical movement’s wristwatch is breathtaking. The watchmaker spent hours and hours building this mechanism accurately.
    • Mechanical movement’s watches require regular winding; even sometimes, they require winding once a day. So, some users don’t like to wind their watch once a day.
    • Mechanical wristwatches are sensitive to the environment, so if you change your location, it may cause problems sometimes.
    • These watches are somewhat expensive than other types of watches. So, it is difficult to purchase for most of the people.

    2. Automatic Movements

Automatic movement’s watches are mostly like mechanical movements watches. The difference between the mechanical movement’s watch and the automatic movement’s watch is the hand winding. You don’t have to wind up the automatic movement’s watches, and that is why they are named as automatic movement’s watch. They have self-winding abilities.

The automatic movement’s watches have a small weight device called rotor that moves when you move your hand or wrist. This rotor is connected with the mainspring and winds up the mainspring when it moves by the movement of the hand or wrist. Automatic movement’s watches also contain a slipping clutch device that prevents the rotor from over moving. Here are some positive and negative sides of the automatic movement’s watches.

    • Automatic movement’s watches don’t require any battery. It can get wind-up through the movement of the rotor.
    • Since the rotor winds up the mainspring automatically, so they don’t require winding by hand.
    • They also have smooth movement as the mechanical movement’s watches have.
    • They are also sensitive to the environment, so if you change your location, you may have to face some issues.
    • These watches need to be stored in a watch winder when they are not in use because they require the wrist’s movements to wind up the mainspring.
    • Automatic movement’s watches lose their accuracy after running day after day.
    • These watches are so expensive because of their building quality and inside’s engineering.

    3. Quartz Movement

Quartz movement watches contain batteries that power the mechanism for running. These watches are more accurate than other types of watches. They can run for a long time, and they are very affordable in price too. Quartz movement’s watches are also good in quality. An example of a Quartz movement’s watch is Vincero watch and there are no doubts about Vincero watches quality.

The battery of Quartz wristwatches supplies the electric power through a small quartz crystal that forces the crystal to vibrate 32,768 times per second. And a circuit inside the watch case converts the vibration into a pulse as well as a second. Here are some positive and negative sides of the Quartz movement’s watches.

    • Quartz watches provide accurate time and never lose or add seconds.
    • They don’t require changing their battery so fast, even not in a year, so they require less maintenance.
    • Since they contain less mechanism and moving parts inside, so they are durable enough. And they are not environment-sensitive.
    • They are affordable and cheaper in price. Sometimes, you can have one with $2, and it will last long enough.
    • But, they don’t have smooth movements as mechanical and automatic have.
    • They are not so gorgeous and romantic.

    The Bottom Line

Most of the watch users don’t know what do the movements of a watch mean. But, it is important when you are passionate about your wristwatch, and you want to have one that should meet your personality and choice. Among these three movements, I personally like the automatic movement type because it doesn’t require any winding manually. Different kinds of movements offer different types of designs and models, so you can check and find the perfect one for you.
