Now there are just over two weeks left to the marketing of Surface Duo, the new folding on which Microsoft has worked for a long time. Even if for now the launch is planned only for the USA and from Redmond they have not unbuttoned a future landing in Europe, there are probably several of our readers who are wondering if such a purchase could be worth it.
To answer (indirectly) the question and admire how the smartphone we have been talking about for months is made, you can spend about ten minutes of your time watching a pleasant hands-on video made by a Canadian YouTuber. Actually what Dave Lee has in his hands is an “engineering sample” that has some limitations, but compared to the final model look and feel should be unaffected.
In the video above, Dave Lee analyzes the pros and cons of the Microsoft device in terms of construction and usability, but without seeing anything from the software. He points out that the device feels great in the hand while noting that it is the thinnest device he has ever tried. This of course applies, as each screen is 4.8 mm thick.
Dave Lee states that the mechanism that holds the two screens has no “gap”, that is, it remains solid in any position and someone turns the device. He also points out that it is glass and not magnesium, like all other Surface devices. The screens of the Surface Duo are quite wide, with a ratio of 3: 2, in contrast to what we are used to until today, but it is something that will not be convenient in calls.
As mentioned above, unfortunately, it is not a normal hands-on, as it is a factory prototype and not the final product, with some restrictions. However, Dave Lee points out that Microsoft Surface Duo construction is a ” miracle of technology “, something that Panos Panay had told us. Anyway, at this point, we are waiting for the first, real review.
