In March of this year, at Xiaomi’s spring new product launch conference, the company’s first folding phone Mi Mix Fold was officially released. As one of the few Chinese manufacturers to launch a folding-screen phone, Xiaomi will release more folding phones in the future.
According to LetsGoDigital, Xiaomi expects to launch at least one or two folding screen smartphones before the end of the year. In addition, it also exposed a patent for the appearance of a new folding phone applied by Xiaomi.
LetsGoDigital pointed out that after launching its first folding phone Mi Mix Fold at the Xiaomi spring new product launch in March this year, Xiaomi will continue to launch one or two iterative products this year.
Previously, LetsGoDigital shared a patent for the appearance of a Xiaomi phone that uses a similar up and down folding scheme of Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. The shape looks like a classic clamshell model, with a dual-hole design, and a triple camera setup is installed on the rear.
Now, LetsGoDigital has revealed an iterative product patent that seems to be Xiaomi’s folding phone Mi Mix Fold. The patent also uses an internal folding solution, but it seems to have a taste of Xiaomi’s surround screen concept phone Mi Mix Alpha.
It is reported that Beijing Xiaomi Mobile Software Co., Ltd. applied to the National Intellectual Property Office (CNIPA) on February 24, 2020, and officially obtained the patent authorization on July 6, 2021.
From the perspective of the patent map, this patent uses the same internal folding scheme as the Mi Mix Fold, but there are many differences. There is a huge bezel on the left and physical buttons are also designed, which is similar to Huawei Mate Xs.
In addition, the upper screen also uses a design similar to that of Xiaomi’s surround screen concept phone Mi Mix Alpha. The body is surrounded by a whole screen and extends to the hinge. At present, it is not clear whether the patent can be used for mass production. However, there is news that Xiaomi will launch a new folding phone in the fourth quarter of this year, so let us wait and see.
