How To Find Your Passion for a Fulfilling Career

Brady CottonBy Brady CottonFebruary 4, 2022

If you’re looking for a fulfilling career, the first piece of advice you will receive will be to ‘follow your passion.’ That said, let’s agree, we can all be passionate about something for a while, only to lose interest in it after some time.

But if you are looking to build a career around it, you need to make sure that it is indeed the right choice. For those trying to figure out their passion, here are some fresh perspectives that can help you with the process. You can check sales manager resume here.

    1.Get to Know Yourself Better

You are not going to find your passion by doing a Google search. When you ask a professional expert to write my resume for me or go for a job interview, you need to have a clear idea about why you are passionate about a particular position or field.

If you are clueless about where to get started, here are some questions you can ask yourself:

    • What do you like to read or watch in your free time?
    • What are your accomplishments?
    • What would you pick if you had a chance to do one college program for free and without any conditions?
    • What motivates you the most to take action?
    • What skill or talents would you like to pursue?

These are only a few questions that might help you think and understand what excites and inspires you. Uncover what you love, hate, and what you want to do about it; you will get an outcome you care about.

2.What are the Happiest Points in Your Day?

To find out your passion, try to pinpoint which points of your day or week you usually look forward to. You might be a student who enjoys reading about one subject more than others. You might also like doing your part-time job more than you expected, even if it is not remotely related to the career field you picked.

On the other hand, if you already have a job, your high points might be happening outside your workplace, when you are doing things alone, or with friends or family. Taking note of these can help you figure out what makes you the happiest.

    3.Find the Umbrella

Once you have created a list of things you like to pursue, it might not seem entirely disconnected at first glance. These interests are like the different ingredients you have, and you need to make a recipe out of it.

If you do not want to focus on just one aspect, you will have to figure out an umbrella where all, or at least a few of your interests, can fit beneath. For instance, if you like art, drinking coffee, or reading, you can work towards being an illustrator for books. Or, if you like running a business and exploring food, you can learn how to train new entrepreneurs to start their restaurant line.

Of course, you might not be able to fit in everything, but it would not hurt to get creative and find a niche with a new market. After all, it could end up with one of the top jobs of the future in a few years.

4.Can Your Hobby Be a Career?

After identifying what your interests are or how you want to pursue them, you have to consider them in practical terms. Put simply, you need to be realistic about whether or not your passion can actually turn into a career. Moreover, you should also be clear about what you need to do in order to make that happen. Also, remember that there is a big difference between painting for one hour a day and working on a painting every single day of the week.

In addition, whatever your hobby is, you will still have to manage your time, collaborate with others, account for your finances, and much more. Turning your hobby into work can change it from something you love to do to something you have to do.

    5.Expect Challenges

Turning your hobby into a career does not mean that it is going to be a smooth ride. It would still be your job and would come with all challenges. Even after you craft a winning resume, beat the ATS system, and convince the recruiter, that does not mean that the job will be easier. The real work starts only at that point.

Similarly, if you are starting a business, you should be prepared to take on challenges that come with it. This will require you to consider the realistic aspects of your hobby. For instance, if you are planning to sell a product, how would you manage the logistics, how can you deal with unhappy clients, and what can you do to ensure high-quality service? While you might not enjoy these aspects, you will have to find room.

6.You Do Not Need a Passion for a Fulfilling Career

Now, this statement might seem contradictory, but there are many advantages to keeping your work and hobbies separate. For example, turning your hobbies into a job can reduce your satisfaction. This is especially crucial for those wanting to start a writing business or sell arts because you might end up spending more time chasing compensation.

Moreover, as we mentioned in the introduction, your passion might also change over time, so you do not want to tie yourself into a career purely based on your current interest.

However, what you can do is to try to find a job that lets you find the time and means to pursue your interest. To give an example, if you want to travel, find a job that pays you well, or gives you the opportunity to travel.

Thankfully, an increasing number of companies are offering flexible work arrangements that can help you with this. At the end of the day, you want your job to offer you security, time, and earnings that lets you find balance in all aspects of your life.
