A January 2023 security patch has introduced support for static space audio on the latest Pixel phones. Google is now rolling out Pixel Buds Pro wireless headphone firmware update 4.30, which supports Spatial Audio with head tracking.
A 3.14 firmware version of Pixel Buds Pro headphones was released in October last year, bringing full 5-band EQ, left/right balancing controls, Bug fixes and more.
After the update, going to the Pixel Buds Pro setting will display the new Spatial audio menu, which incorporates the main switcher and “Head tracking”.
Google says the “audio changes when you move your head to sound more natural” and includes demo videos that allow you to “hear how the audio changes.”
Google advises users to “keep your phone stable or place it on a stable surface or stand” while watching Dolby Audio or 5.1+ content. Supported streaming services include YouTube, Google TV, Disney+, HBO Max and Netflix.
Make sure Space Audio is turned on at the bottom of your Bluetooth Settings. It works with Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 7 and 7 Pro phones. Officially, “Pixel Buds Series A or Pixel A phones do not support spatial audio.”
Google launched Pixel Buds app 1.0.506492162 in mid-February this year.
