Huawei has officially released Huawei p10 and Huawei P10 Plus at MWC 2017 yesterday, when we first see its design, it looks very similar to Xiaomi MI5S on the front design, especially Huawei first adopts hidden fingerprint scanner on the front design, therefore, Huawei P10 has similarity to Xiaomi MI5s in design, how about other aspects such as performance, camera, battery, features, etc. Let’s know their main difference as follow.
Design
Huawei P10/P10 Plus
In design, Huawei P10/P10 Plus continues the style of Huawei P9, but they are more exquisite. Huawei P10/P10 Plus gives us the first impression of sleek design and better holding feel. The design of Huawei P10 and Huawei P10 Plus is same, but different in screen size. The former has 5.1 inch 1080p screen, the latter has 5.5 inch 2K screen. They both have round curved design.
In antenna, they adopt glass panel,and nano molding craftsmanship, the top antenna on the back is located in the glass panel, the bottom adopts nano molding design. Due to amazing craftsmanship, they own advanced LTE four antenna design, （4×4 MIMO）supporting 4.5G network, which can not only improve LTE calling quality but also support LTE CAT12 network.
Their camera don’t stand out after upgrading its camera parts and OIS function.
In the front design, the biggest change is to use front fingerprint scanner under the screen.
In color, they have 8 colors with ergonomics and fashion design, and it has been done CNC metal processing, bring the brightness like diamond. In general, they have better and sleek design and more colorful colors.
Xiaomi MI5S
Xiaomi MI5S doesn’t use ceramic design like Xiaomi MI5, but metal body. It has ditched the logo on the left design, looking simpler. The biggest change of Xiaomi MI5S is also in home button which is the first to use Under Glass ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. So Huawei P10 and Huawei P10 Plus learns this kind of design.
In screen, Xiaomi mi5s uses 5.15 inch 1080P screen, 428 PPI, 1500:1 contrast, up to 600 nit brightness. It has a 2.5D curved glass.
Xiaomi MI5S back adopts metal and wireless drawing design. In antenna design, it adopts three step style. The upper part of antenna line looks like iPhone 6. On the left it has dual tone LED light and Sony IMX 387 12MP back camera, f/2.0 aperture, 80 degree wide viewing lens. It has the ultra sensor camera with 77% zone, claiming the dark night of eye. The lower part of antenna line doesn’t comply with the upper one. The back has simple design and there is a logo on the back.
The bottom of MI5S is USB Type C port and screws on both sides and speaker in symmetrical displaying.
On the left side of the body, it adopts dual Nano SIM card, but not supporting Micro SD card expansion.
On the right side is the volume button and power button.
Therefore, Xiaomi MI5S and Huawei P10/P10 Plus are similar in home button, fingerprint scanner and nice performance in camera.
Hardware
Huawei P10 uses its own Kirin 960 processor, which has also used on Huawei Mate 9 Pro. It has four Cortex A73+Four Cortex A53, 16nm, and Mali G71 MP8 GPU. Take Huawei Mate 9 Pro in consideration, according to Geekbench, it has got 1900 points in single core and 6100 points in multi core, which is a little higher than that of Snapdragon 821. Due to time, we will update the Huawei P10 antutu test later.
But Xiaomi MI5S uses Snapdragon 821 2.15Ghz processor, RAM 3GB, according to Antutu test, it has got 153,252 points, which can see it can meet our large needs to play games.
Therefore, we believe Huawei P10 and Xiaomi MI5S have similar performance level, but Huawei P10 Plus may bring higher performance level.
OS
Previously Huawei released EMUI 5.0 OS based on Android 7.0 OS, after several month, Huawei P10 has used the new EMUI 5.1 OS,which has added Huawei Ultra memory technology, improving running speed and response time, changing the way of using storage, so that enhancing the launching speed.
According EMUI 5.1 OS and Huawei Ultra Memory technology, Huawei P10 and P10 Plus support pieces management, smart storage zip, automatically recycling and so on, improving app response time, couple with Kirin 960 chipset, it claims without stuck in 18 months. As for other functions, they have no big difference in EMUI 5.0 and EMUI 5.1.
However, Xiaomi MI5S runs MIUI 8 OS based on Android 6.0.1, which makes us feel very simple. But right now MIUI 8.2 OS has been released, we believe Xiaomi MI5S will update MIUI 8.2 soon.
In all, they all have nice and convenient OS for users.
Camera
In front camera, Huawei P10 and Huawei P10 Plus are the first world F/1.9 Leica camera phone, they have 8MP front camera with smart wide viewing angle which can switch automatically single person mode or wide viewing multi-persons mode according to numbers to take photos. And Huawei P10 Plus front camera supports auto focus.
Huawei P10/P10 Plus uses Dual rear camera, 12MP (Color)+20MP(Black+White), OIS function, which can bring color restoring, capturing details and improving photos’ analysis, even higher light rate and sensor rate, making details, clarity, and brightness more excellent. It comes with Kirin 960 built in ISP to ensure processing photos more accurate, faster.
Huawei P10 Plus back camera has F/1.8 big aperture, but Huawei P10 only has F/2.2 aperture and new SUMMIULX-H level Leica camera. So when you take photos under the low light, it can improve the photos quality. In focus, they both support four in one focus for capturing more conveniently.

However, Xiaomi MI5S is also famous for its ultra light sensor camera. It adopts IMX378 Sensor, 1/2.3 inch, 12MP back camera, F/2.0 aperture, 80 degree wide viewing angle. In camera mode, it has rich photographing modes like panoramic, countdown, sound shutter, manual, beautification, etc. Check samples as follow.
Therefore, Xiaomi MI5S and Huawei P10/P10 Plus are outstanding in their camera, but Huawei P10/P10 Plus with latest version of Leica lens have more advantages in taking photos.
Battery
As for battery, we also care about it. Huawei P10 is built in 3,200mAh battery, but Huawei P10 Plus has 3,750mAh battery, they both support 3.5-5V/5A quick charge. However, Xiaomi MI5S uses 3,100mAh battery, which can meet the needs to charge once per day. It supports USB Type C port and QC3.0 quick charge, taking one hour and 20 minutes to charge from 0 to 100%. So we believe they are even in battery life and charging speed.
Conclusion
Huawei p10 and Huawei P10 Plus are similar to Xiaomi MI5S in front design, fingerprint scanner, battery, OS experience, etc. But Huawei P10/Plus are aiming at high-end market with high quality, if you are interested in its design, camera, OS, never mind its price, you can have try. Xiaomi MI5s is more competitive in its price, of course, it has 3D touch feature for more convenient operation, if you consider your budget, just choose this Xiaomi MI5S.
