Android 8.0 (Android O) Hands on Video and Firmware Download

Adam BROWNBy Adam BROWNMarch 22, 2017

Today Google has brought the latest Android O developer preview firmware for its flagship, Nexus, Pixel devices, if you have Google Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus Player, Pixel C, Pixel, Pixel XL smartphone, you can download the firmware first to experience. Here is the method of flashing the firmware and firmware.

    Download here:

    Nexus 5X

    Nexus 6P

    Nexus Player

    Pixel C

    Pixel

    Pixel XL

How to Install Android O on Nexus/Pixel Devices (Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Pixel & Pixel XL)

Note: The below guide will wipe your device completely. Backup every data before proceeding with below steps.

    1. Download the Android O factory image for your Nexus or Pixel from here.

    2. Unlock your device’s bootloader. To do so, enable ‘OEM Unlock’ in Developer Options (Go to Settings > About Phone and tap build number 7-times to enable Developer Options).

    3. Also, enable “USB Debugging” on your phone in Developer options

    4. Unzip the downloaded Android O and save the content inside the ADB or Platform folder.

    5. Connect your phone to your computer via a USB cable. Inside the ADB or Platform folder, open a command window (in Windows Shift + right click and select ‘Open command window here’ option)

    6. Issue the command adb reboot bootloader to boot your device into bootloader mode.

    7. Now, to unlock the bootloader, issue the below command:

    fastboot flashing unlock

[Follow the instruction on your phone’s screen)

    8. Now, go to the folder where the extracted factory image files saved and execute the “flash-all script”.

[This script installs the necessary bootloader, baseband firmware, and operating system. Once the script finishes, your device reboots]

    9. You should now relock the bootloader for security. Reboot the device in fastboot mode again and issue the below command:

    fastboot flashing lock

Note: Locking bootloader will wipe the data you have on the phone.

After other media Droid-life brings the hands on video about latest Android O Preview version, it has introduced the background management rule, customized notification bar, PIP, fill out the form automatically, adaptive icon, high quality Bluetooth audio decoding and other aspects, but in the interface, there is no big difference between Android N and Android O. Of course, the most attractive part is the optimization for apps in the backgroud managment control.

In system settings, users can turn on/off PIP function to improve multi-task operation, and filling out the form automatically is the common function in PC browser, which has also been used in Android O Preview version, before users launch this function, they need to choose to fill automatically in advance.

Thanks to ‘Background Execution Limits’ function, the apps in the background can be limited to broadcast, background service and place updates three functions which can retain battery life.

Of course, due to compatibility, when it will be used on Chinese smartphones, it’s up to their manufacturers, after all, Android N has not been common until now.
