Google recently issued an official press release announcing that it will use the Android Health platform to replace the Google Fit exercise recording API in June next year, and developers should start the migration plan as soon as possible.

Google has been gradually expanding its investment in the Android Health platform since 2022, aiming to reduce platform fragmentation and simplify the development process. According to an official press release, Google is integrating Fit development services into the Android Health platform, which it claims will provide a “seamless cross-platform environment” for developers and users.

According to Google, the Android Health API has several advantages over the Fit API: it can record users’ “steps, distance and calories” without verifying their Google account, and it also saves energy compared to the Fit API. In addition, the Android Health API gives developers access to 10 days of user history data and “seamless integration into the numerous third-party apps in the Android ecosystem.”

Google claims that the Google Fit API (Igeekphone note: The REST API will be closed on June 30, 2025, giving developers more time to transfer development work to Android Health, and the Google Fit API will no longer accept new user registrations from today.

Google also stressed that the Android Health API is the “future direction” of the company, in addition to its own watches and subsidiary Fitbit products, Other vendors, including Withings, Peloton, and Lifesum, are reportedly working on products that are compatible with Android Health.
