Dual Displays Designed Around a Paper-Like Ratio
One of the biggest changes on the Xiaomi 18 Fold is its new mid-fold form factor. The phone combines a 5.38-inch outer display with a much larger 7.58-inch internal screen. It shows Xiaomi foldable display technology here.
Both panels use a display ratio inspired by the √2:1 proportions of standard paper. Xiaomi says this approach is intended to provide a more natural reading and productivity experience when the device is unfolded.
The displays support an LTPO 1-120Hz refresh rate and can reach up to 4,000 nits under specified outdoor brightness conditions. Xiaomi also says the new super-pixel display technology improves clarity while helping reduce power consumption.
The phone is available in several finishes, including the main Xieye Red color along with warm gold white and black options.
Slim Foldable Design at 219g
Despite having a large internal screen, the Xiaomi 18 Fold measures only 5.02mm when unfolded and 10.68mm when folded. Its total weight is approximately 219 grams.
The design uses rounded corners, a flat-wrapped middle frame and a track-inspired decorative element. Xiaomi has also optimized the external screen for one-handed use.
The company says the outer display allows most areas to be reached comfortably with one hand. Its wider layout is also designed to show more characters on a single line, making reading more natural.
Xiaomi has even widened the keyboard area by around 8% compared with a typical 6.9-inch straight-screen smartphone, giving users more room for typing.
Up to Six Apps on Screen
The larger internal display is designed not only for media consumption but also for productivity. Xiaomi 18 Fold supports a new multitasking system capable of displaying up to six split-screen windows at the same time.
The phone also integrates Xiaomi’s Super Xiaoyi Inspiration Ball, which can handle more complicated tasks through natural-language commands. This makes the large foldable screen more useful for users who frequently switch between multiple apps.
Xuanji O3 Brings a Major Performance Upgrade
The Xiaomi 18 Fold is the first smartphone to use the new Xuanji O3 Xiaomi AI flagship SoC.
Xiaomi says the chip is the company’s first AI flagship platform to exceed 500 million operations. Compared with the previous generation, the CPU’s multi-core performance is claimed to increase by 60%, while low-load power consumption falls by 25%.
The GPU is also reported to deliver an 85% performance improvement while reducing power consumption by 64%.
For AI workloads, the Xuanji O3 provides up to 200 TOPS of NPU tensor computing performance and 3.13 TFLOPS of vector computing performance.
Another notable component is the phone’s LPDDR6 memory. Xiaomi says it worked with ChangXin Storage to achieve the first mass production of domestic LPDDR6 memory for the device.
6,000mAh Battery With 67W Charging
The Xiaomi 18 Fold packs a 6,000mAh battery using Xiaomi’s Jinjiang battery technology and a double-layer stacked structure.
The battery has a reported 20% high-silicon content and reaches an energy density of up to 920Wh/L. The high-density design is particularly important for a foldable phone because internal space is shared between the hinge, displays and other components.
Charging support includes:
- 67W wired fast charging
- 50W wireless charging
The combination of a 6,000mAh capacity and stacked battery architecture gives the Xiaomi 18 Fold a relatively large power reserve without significantly increasing its thickness.
Leica Triple-Camera System
For photography, the Xiaomi 18 Fold features a Leica-branded triple-camera setup covering multiple focal lengths.
The system includes:
- 200-megapixel Leica main camera
- 50-megapixel Leica telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom
- 50-megapixel Leica ultra-wide camera
The combination is designed to give users more flexibility across standard, zoom and wide-angle photography.
Reinforced Foldable Construction
Durability is another major focus of the Xiaomi 18 Fold. Xiaomi says the phone can withstand drops from up to 1.2 meters and is designed to offer durability closer to that of a conventional flagship smartphone.
The structure combines a new Xiaomi frame design with a 7-series aluminum alloy middle frame and Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0.
The foldable display structure also uses dual-layer UTG ultra-thin glass together with flexible insulating materials. Xiaomi says the hinge and body structure went through full-angle simulations and real-world environmental testing, resulting in 492 structural optimizations.
Xiaomi 18 Fold Ceramic Edition
Alongside the standard models, Xiaomi has introduced a limited Xiaomi 18 Fold Ceramic Edition.
The special version uses a new silicon nitride ceramic material designed to provide greater hardness while keeping the device relatively light. It is offered exclusively with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage.
The ceramic model costs 15,999 yuan and is limited to 1,500 units.
Xiaomi 18 Fold: A Foldable Focused on Performance and Productivity
Xiaomi 18 Fold stands out from earlier foldables through its combination of a compact outer screen, a 7.58-inch internal display, a 6,000mAh battery and the new Xuanji O3 AI chipset.
Its 5.02mm unfolded thickness and 219g weight are also notable for a device with this type of dual-screen design.
With prices starting at 10,999 yuan, Xiaomi is clearly positioning the 18 Fold in the premium foldable segment. Its biggest attractions are the large internal display, six-window multitasking support, Leica camera system, high-density battery and next-generation AI processing platform.
For users looking for a foldable that can function as both a compact smartphone and a larger productivity device, the Xiaomi 18 Fold is one of the company’s most ambitious foldable designs yet.
