Igeekphone News, May 27th: Technology media majinbuofficial published a blog post yesterday (May 26th), sharing more details about Apple’s iPhone 17 Air, stating that the device is only 5.5 millimeters thick, marking a milestone in Apple’s slim design history.
In terms of materials, the iPhone 17 Air uses 7000 series aluminum alloy. The weight of the middle frame is approximately 25 to 30 grams, and the overall weight of the device is approximately 146 grams. In comparison, the weight of the iPhone 6 is 130 grams, and that of the iPhone 16 is approximately 170 grams.
Igeekphone quoted a blog post as introducing that the weight distribution of the iPhone 17 Air is briefly attached as follows:
7000 series aluminum alloy frame: approximately 25 to 30 grams, which is lighter than the titanium metal used in Pro models.
OLED screen: Approximately 35 grams, specially optimized for ultra-thin design. Apple also deliberately reduced the size of the display screen to avoid the “bendgate” bending problem similar to that in the iPhone 6 era and ensure the stability of the structure.
Single 48-megapixel main camera: approximately 5 to 7 grams.
A19 chip and logic motherboard: approximately 10 to 12 grams, with a 3nm process to reduce volume.
MagSafe module and other electronic components: approximately 10 to 12 grams, enabling functions such as wireless charging.
Glass back panel: Approximately 15 grams, lighter than the current model.
Silicon-carbon battery: approximately 35 grams. Through advanced technology and the removal of adhesives, it is lighter than traditional lithium batteries.
In terms of the screen, the iPhone 17 Air is equipped with an OLED display, supporting a 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate and Always On function. Users can view notifications and widgets without unlocking. The screen also integrates the dynamic island technology and is protected by Ceramic Shield glass.
In terms of battery, the battery capacity of the iPhone 17 Air is relatively small, estimated at 2800mAh, which is approximately 20% less than that of the iPhone 16 (3500mAh).
However, the media pointed out that Apple’s introduction of silicon-carbon technology has increased energy density by 15-20%. It is expected that the battery life can reach 6-7 hours under heavy use and about 3-4 hours under extreme load. In addition, to make up for the insufficient battery life, Apple may introduce an optional battery case accessory.
In terms of chips, the device is equipped with the A19 chip and adopts a 3nm process. Furthermore, the device supports Wi-Fi 7, 5G and eSIM, and is equipped with 8GB of memory to ensure the efficient operation of the Apple Intelligence features introduced in iOS 19.
In terms of imaging, the iPhone 17 Air features a minimalist style. It has a single 48-megapixel rear camera placed in the upper left corner. The front camera has been upgraded to 24 million pixels to improve the quality of selfies and video calls. In contrast, the front camera of the iPhone 16 is 12 million pixels.
