Elephone started again a special promotion on Aliexpress for the new Elephone U2 smartphone from July 1st to July 6th. ELEPHONE U2 is the most cost-effective pop-up camera phone for just $199.99 for the 4GB + 64GB model and 6GB + 128GB at $249.99. Not a bad price and the cheapest smartphone with a pop-up camera that is currently available on the market. Elephone U2 is still a mid-range device, but one that will satisfy the needs of most users.
The Elephone U2 comes with the Helio P70 chipset from Mediatek that has an octa-core configuration. Like I mentioned earlier, there are two versions available when it comes to RAM and storage: 4GB + 64GB as well as 6GB + 128GB. The device comes with a 6.26″ FullHD+ screen that has no notch or punch hole. Furthermore, it has really slim bezels all around with a 93.1% screen-to-body ratio. Sadly it comes with an LCD display, not an AMOLED one, but Elephone promises vivid colors.
On the back, the Elephone U2 features a 3 camera setup with the main sensor at 16MP, a depth-sensing sensor of 2MP and a third “light-enhancement” one that has 5MP. I would have loved to see a newer, 48MP camera here, but hopefully, the setup present along with good software will compensate and Elephone U2 will be capable of good photos, considering the price point.
On the front, because there are no elements to take from the screen real-estate, Elephone U2 has a pop-up mechanism that holds a 16MP+2MP camera. The selfies are further enhanced using the onboard AI co-processor present in the Helio P70 chipset.
The Elephone U2 comes with Bluetooth 4.2, WiFi b/g/n, GPS and a side-mounted fingerprint reader. It has a 3250mAh battery with support for quick-charge and a USB Type-C connector. Software-wise, the smartphone has Android 9 out of the box with EleUI skin on top. Elephone’s custom version of Android is close to stock, with only a few minor tweaks.
