    CDRC V618 MAX Review: A GPS FPV Drone With Its Own LCD Controller

    Budget drones have become surprisingly feature-rich, but there is a big difference between a long specification list and a drone that is genuinely convenient to use. The CDRC V618 MAX takes an interesting approach by combining GPS positioning, optical-flow hovering, a 1080P camera, 5G Wi-Fi FPV, obstacle detection, and a dedicated controller with a built-in 16.8cm display.

    That last feature may be the most significant. Instead of making the pilot depend entirely on a smartphone for live video, the V618 MAX puts a large screen directly into the remote controller. The drone also folds down for transport and uses a 1503 brushless motor system with a 7.4V 3000mAh LiPo battery. Banggood lists approximately 20 minutes of flight time under its stated conditions.

    The result is a drone aimed less at extreme aerial performance and more at giving beginners and casual aerial photographers a broader set of automated flight tools without moving into a much more expensive professional category.

    The Real Selling Point Is the Controller

    Many affordable FPV drones treat the smartphone as part of the control system. That can work, but it also introduces distractions: notifications, a small screen, battery consumption, and the need to mount the phone correctly.

    The V618 MAX approaches the problem differently.

    Its remote controller incorporates a 16.8cm LCD display, allowing the pilot to monitor the FPV feed without relying exclusively on a phone. Banggood specifically notes that the controller’s screen is not a touchscreen, so users should not expect smartphone-style touch controls.

    For a beginner, this could make the setup feel more like a dedicated flying system. You pick up the controller, power everything on, and have the live camera view available from the same device.

    The controller itself also has a built-in 3.7V 5000mAh battery, giving it its own substantial power source rather than depending on a phone’s battery.

    GPS and Optical Flow Work Together

    The V618 MAX uses two different positioning approaches: GPS positioning and optical-flow positioning.

    These systems serve different purposes.

    GPS helps the drone understand its outdoor position and supports features such as return-to-home, waypoint flight, and follow-me functions. Optical flow is more closely associated with maintaining a stable position near the ground by analyzing movement relative to the surface.

    This combination is useful because simply having a six-axis gyroscope does not automatically make a drone easy to hold in one place.

    That does not mean GPS can prevent every flying mistake. Trees, buildings, interference, wind, poor satellite reception, and other environmental conditions can all affect flight behavior. Automated positioning should be considered an aid, not a substitute for attentive piloting.

    1080P Camera With Remote Angle Adjustment

    The V618 MAX carries a 1080P HD camera with a 110-degree lens, and its camera angle can be adjusted remotely through a range of approximately 90 degrees.

    That adjustable angle is more useful than it might initially sound.

    A fixed camera forces the drone to change its physical attitude whenever the pilot wants to alter the framing. A remotely adjustable camera gives the operator another way to change what appears in the frame while the aircraft remains relatively level.

    For casual landscape shots, travel footage, property overviews, and simple aerial clips, this can make framing easier.

    However, buyers should keep expectations realistic. A 1080P camera and servo-style gimbal system place the V618 MAX firmly in the consumer/budget category. It should not be compared directly with drones featuring large imaging sensors, mechanical multi-axis gimbals, or professional stabilization systems.

    The strength here is versatility rather than cinematic image quality.

    5G Wi-Fi FPV: What the Specification Actually Means

    The drone uses 5G Wi-Fi for FPV transmission, with Banggood listing an FPV distance of up to approximately 1000m under favorable conditions. The product page also lists an approximately 1000m control distance when there is no interference or obstruction.

    The important phrase is “under favorable conditions.”

    Real-world wireless range can be affected by buildings, trees, other radio signals, terrain, local regulations, and the orientation of the drone and controller.

    The drone can also connect with a mobile device through its app system, supporting live transmission and camera functions. Compatible operating systems are listed as iOS 8.0 or later and Android 4.4.4 or later.

    360-Degree Obstacle Detection Adds a Safety Layer

    Another headline feature is 360-degree obstacle avoidance.

    The system uses an obstacle-avoidance sensor described by Banggood as providing 360-degree detection, with a stated detection distance of up to 20m.

    For beginners, this can be valuable when flying in environments where manually judging every direction is difficult.

    But obstacle avoidance should not be interpreted as an invisible shield around the aircraft.

    Sensors have limitations. Thin branches, wires, reflective surfaces, poor lighting, fast movement, and unusual objects can challenge automated detection systems. Pilots should still maintain visual awareness of the drone and its surroundings.

    In other words, the feature is best understood as an additional layer of assistance, not permission to fly without paying attention.

    Brushless Motors Give the V618 MAX a More Serious Hardware Base

    The V618 MAX uses 1503 brushless motors rather than basic brushed motors. It is brushless RC drone.

    That choice matters for a foldable drone of this size.

    Brushless motors generally offer advantages in efficiency, durability, and sustained performance compared with traditional brushed designs. They are particularly useful when a drone needs to carry a camera, obstacle sensors, battery, and additional electronics without making the aircraft excessively large.

    Banggood also describes the V618 MAX as having strong wind resistance. That claim should still be treated cautiously because wind performance depends on conditions, battery level, payload, and the pilot’s control inputs.

    A compact consumer drone is never going to behave the same way as a much larger professional aircraft in strong wind.

    About 20 Minutes of Flight Time

    Power comes from a 7.4V 3000mAh LiPo battery, and the advertised flight time is approximately 20 minutes. Charging takes around 180 minutes, according to the product specifications.

    This is a familiar compromise in this class of drone.

    Twenty minutes is enough for a useful recreational flight, but it is not enough to remove the need for planning. If you intend to spend an afternoon shooting video, carrying spare batteries becomes much more important.

    The relatively long three-hour charging time also means that users should not expect to land, recharge quickly, and immediately return to the air.

    For occasional flying, however, the battery capacity is reasonable for the drone’s size and feature set.

    Foldable Design Makes Transportation Easier

    The V618 MAX measures approximately 180 × 125 × 70mm when folded and expands to about 360 × 340 × 70mm when unfolded. Its listed takeoff weight is approximately 252g, including the battery.

    The folding mechanism is practical for travel because the aircraft occupies significantly less space when stored.

    The included package also contains a storage bag, spare propellers, charging cable, memory card, card reader, phone holder, screwdriver, and user manual. Banggood lists an 8GB high-speed memory card among the included accessories.

    That makes the package closer to a ready-to-fly setup rather than a bare aircraft that requires several additional purchases before the first flight.

    Follow Me, Waypoints, and Surround Flight

    The V618 MAX is not limited to basic manual controls.

    Its software includes several automated flight modes:

    • Follow Me
    • Waypoint flight
    • Surround flight
    • Headless mode
    • One-key return
    • One-key takeoff and landing

    The waypoint mode is particularly interesting. According to the listing, the pilot can draw a route on the screen and have the drone follow the specified path.

    This changes the experience from simply steering the aircraft to planning its movement.

    For example, a user could create a simple route around a viewpoint instead of manually attempting to maintain a consistent flight path.

    The Surround mode similarly provides an automated circular flight path that can create a different perspective around a subject.

    These modes can make the V618 MAX more entertaining for casual users, but they should always be used in an open, legal flying environment.

    One-Key Airdrop Is More Than a Gimmick

    CDRC V618 MAX vs. a Typical Budget GPS Drone

    The V618 MAX’s appeal becomes clearer when looking at the whole system rather than one specification.

    A typical entry-level GPS drone may offer a camera, GPS, basic return-to-home functionality, and smartphone FPV.

    The V618 MAX adds several layers on top:

    Dedicated display → GPS → optical flow → obstacle detection → automated routes → follow-me → adjustable camera → airdrop capability

    That does not automatically make it a better aircraft than every competitor, but it does make the package unusually feature-dense.
