FEIYUTECH G6 Review: 3-axis Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer For Gopro Action Camera

The Chinese brand FeiyuTech has just launched the new version of its highest-end gimbal FeiyuTech G6. After the success achieved by the gimbal Feiyu G5, the brand is still committed to innovation and presents us with a very powerful model and with all the improvements that users demanded. It is easy to balance the gimbal with the combination of a knob and sliding arm. And both tilting axis and panning axis are 360 degrees, enabling shooting as you wish.

The FeiyuTech G6 is a 3-axis handheld electronic gimbal for GoPro HERO6 / 5/4/3 + / 3, the Sony DSC-RX0 and action cameras of similar size. The G6 has various recording modes (panning, panning and tilting, lock, selfie) and can be moved with the central 4-way joystick in the pivot axis (Panning Axis) as well as in the tilt axis (Tilting Axis) by 360 °. In the roll axis, you have a range of motion of 320 °. The significantly improved stabilization software compared to the predecessor model ensures better recording results and more efficient battery consumption.

The battery of the Feiyu Tech G6 (Li-Ion 22650) lasts up to 12h and is replaceable. Furthermore, it is also possible to load your camera via the G6. The roll axle motor, which is bent by 35 °, also ensures that you have the screen of your camera at all times in full view and you will not miss a cool shot.

  1. I bought this thinking it would be a vast improvement on Feiyu tech G5 and it is if you run it with GoPro 5/6. It is not compatible with GoPro 4, well not currently anyway. It will not connect to the camera via WiFi and therefore the controls for starting record are obsolete. I have emailed the company to see if there will be a firmware upgrade and are currently waiting a response. The app is easily enough to navigate and via a phone you can control the gimbal, but again the record functions will not start a GoPro 4. The only way to start a GoPro 4 is to pre select the function you want, i.e photo or video via camera settings on GoPro, mount the camera to gimbal. Switch on gimbal, then press record on camera , then away you go. You could use GoPro smart remote or the GoPro app on a phone to record photo or video as you go, but it’s all addition to the controls on gimbal which sit there obsolete.

  2. Further to my last , I bought this as I thought the new angle of gimbal head would be great for the GoPro 4 silver with lcd screen. However the lack of record/ photo through the gimbal for a GoPro 4 , makes it currently disappointing unless there is a firmware upgrade to select different camera control. Oh and the charging of the camera from gimbal is not for GoPro 4 either, only GoPro 5/6
