According to Yogesh, the upcoming Google Pixel 6 will be powered by Google’s own chip, tentatively named “Whitechapel,” which will be close to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chip.
Yogesh says the chip will be made using Samsung’s 5nm process and will perform between the Snapdragon 865 and the Snapdragon 888, which is roughly the same as the Snapdragon 870. The chip will not attempt to challenge the top performance of the Snapdragon 888, but will instead focus on machine learning and artificial intelligence. The CPU chip will also come with a GPU code-named “Mali,” though details of that GPU are unclear.
Some general configuration information and rendering images of the Google Pixel 6 phone were released last week. The device will have a curved 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with a front-facing camera with an on-screen cutout in a central position at the top of the screen and a rear camera with three cameras, including a submersible zoom camera, the first time Google has used a submersible zoom camera in a phone.
In addition, the Google Pixel 6 Pro phone will have an extremely narrow bezel, measuring 163.9 x 75.8 x 8.9 mm and increasing the thickness of the camera bump to 11.5 mm. The phone also has dual stereo speakers, wireless charging and supports for fingerprint unlocking. The phone will also have a high refresh rate of 120Hz and a large battery of 5,000mAh.
Google is expected to release the Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro phones in October 2021, but the Google could also be delayed due to a global core shortage.
