Reports indicate that apps on Android tablets typically open in full screen by default. To switch to desktop mode on a Pixel Tablet, users can press and hold the window bar at the top center and drag it within the interface.
Additionally, by tapping or clicking the horizontal bar above the window, users can access the desktop window feature via a menu or use a keyboard shortcut (Win/Command/Search + Ctrl + Down). To exit the desktop window and return to full screen, users can either close all active windows, drag the app to the top of the screen, or use the shortcut Meta + H. Returning to the desktop can be done by moving the full-screen app back to the desktop space or selecting the Desktop tile from the Recent screen.
The blog also highlighted that free window mode is already available on platforms like Samsung DeX and ChromeOS. Android officials are urging developers to optimize their apps for adaptive layouts, improved multitasking, and adaptive input to ensure seamless performance across large-screen devices in the Android ecosystem.
