Honor has steadily built a reputation as one of the most ambitious names in the foldable smartphone market. From the start, the brand has been pushing boundaries, constantly redefining what a foldable phone can be. Back in 2021, the first-generation Magic V introduced Honor’s self-developed ultra-thin floating waterdrop hinge, which allowed for a seamless fold, something no one had truly achieved before. It marked the beginning of a new era for foldables.
Fast forward to 2023, the Huawei Magic V2 arrived, turning heads with its millimeter-thin body and proving that foldables didn’t have to compromise on portability. Just a short while later, the Magic V5 stunned everyone again by slimming down to only 8.8mm, shattering two world records at once. Clearly, Honor has never been content just to follow trends—it sets them.
But Honor isn’t just focused on big foldables. The company also made a strong entry into the compact foldable space. In June 2024, it launched the Magic V Flip, a pocket-sized foldable aimed at younger users. With its impressive 4.0-inch external display and flagship-level visuals, plus versatile interactive features, it blurred the line between compact and premium.
Now, Honor is back with the Honor Magic V Flip 2, an upgrade that raises the bar even higher. This time, the device packs a 200MP main camera and a massive 5500mAh battery—an incredible feat for a foldable this size. Beyond raw specs, Honor has refined the overall user experience to deliver what it believes is the best compact foldable phone on the market.
So, what makes the Honor Magic V Flip 2 stand out? Let’s take a closer look at its biggest highlights:
1. Flagship-level camera system in a compact foldable
Despite its small frame, the Magic V Flip 2 houses a 200MP ultra-clear main camera paired with a 50MP ultra-wide lens, giving users the kind of imaging power usually reserved for larger devices. Thanks to the foldable design, the main camera can even double as a selfie camera, producing professional-grade portraits.
2. Next-generation hinge technology
Honor has upgraded its Luban hinge for this generation. The hinge’s axis area now opens up just 4.5%, with a double-sided door panel design that ensures smoother folding, reduced creasing, and greater durability. Certified by SGS for long-term flat crease resistance, it’s currently the flattest hinge solution in the small foldable category. On top of that, the screen uses 50μm ultra-tough UTG glass reinforced with aviation-grade titanium alloy, while the body itself is IP58 & IP59 rated for dust and water resistance.
3. Bigger and stronger battery
At the heart of the Honor Magic V Flip 2 is Honor’s flagship Qinghai Lake battery. With 15% silicon content and a 7.8% boost in energy density compared to the previous model, the battery now reaches an impressive 5500mAh—the largest ever in a compact foldable. Despite the larger capacity, Honor has managed to slim the phone down, with the unfolded body measuring just 6.9mm, making it even thinner than its predecessor.
4. Triple flagship chip setup
Inside, the Honor Magic V Flip 2 runs on the third-generation Snapdragon 8 processor built on a 4nm process, paired with Honor’s own C1+ RF enhancement chip for stronger signal performance and the E2 efficiency chip to reduce heat and keep performance smooth over extended use.
With this combination of powerful hardware, cutting-edge hinge design, and unmatched battery life, the Honor Magic V Flip 2 makes a strong case as the ultimate compact foldable for 2025. It’s not just about fitting more tech into a smaller body—it’s about delivering a premium experience without compromise.
Design and Display
The Honor Magic V Flip 2 stands out with its gorgeous 6.82-inch main display. It delivers an impressive peak brightness of 5000 nits, making it easy to see even under harsh sunlight. The screen also supports a smooth 1–120Hz adaptive refresh rate, while its ultra-high-frequency PWM dimming helps reduce eye strain during nighttime use. Honor’s AI eye protection adds another layer of comfort, ensuring long sessions of browsing or streaming don’t feel tiring. And when it comes to folding phones, one of the biggest concerns—the crease—is practically unnoticeable here.
The unit we received came in the elegant Moon Shadow White finish. It has a delicate look, almost like fine silk glowing under soft moonlight. The result is a design that feels clean, refined, and instantly recognizable.
On the back, the dual-camera setup sits neatly in the upper left corner. Both lenses are encircled with metallic rings, and the symmetry of the twin circles adds a touch of sophistication, highlighting the premium build quality.
Flip the phone around, and you’ll notice the compact 4.0-inch external display. Its nearly square aspect ratio gives it a distinctive look, but it’s not just for show. This outer screen rivals the main one in quality, offering a peak brightness of 3600 nits, 3840Hz PWM dimming, and the same adaptive refresh rate and AI enhancements. Whether it’s quick notifications or full-featured use, it feels just as sharp and fluid as the inner display.
Durability is another area where the Magic V Flip 2 shines. The redesigned Luban hinge is slimmer yet stronger, allowing the device to reach an impressive thinness of just 6.9mm when unfolded. Reinforced with aviation-grade titanium alloy in the screen’s support layer, the phone offers both toughness and stability without adding bulk.
Unlocking the phone is smooth and effortless thanks to the side-mounted fingerprint scanner integrated into the power button. Its placement feels natural whether you’re using the phone folded or open, making the process seamless.
To top it all off, Honor includes an 80W fast charger in the box, so you can juice up quickly and get back to using the device without long waits.
A Smarter, More Fun External Screen
The Honor Magic V Flip 2 brings a major upgrade to its 4.0-inch external screen, making it more than just a window for glances. It now feels like a versatile companion, packed with features that keep things lively and productive without the need to flip open the phone.
Just like the previous model, the external display still supports all those handy shortcuts—watching videos, playing music, replying to WeChat messages, and more. But this time, it’s been enhanced with even richer desktop cards, turning the external screen into a true productivity hub.
Cute Companions on Your Screen
Instead of a plain wallpaper, the new external screen lets you add animated pets that brighten up your day. You can pick from over a dozen options, from playful cats and puppies to quirky monkeys and elegant owls. Every time you light up the display, your little companion is there to greet you, instantly lifting your mood.
And it’s not just for looks—you can interact with these pets. Tap or swipe at them, or even chat through voice commands with added widgets that let them respond. It’s a mix of fun and utility that makes the phone feel more personal.
Lock Screen Gets a Makeover
Honor has reimagined the lock screen experience, too. The Honor Magic V Flip 2 supports dynamic, live lock screens, so you can use video clips or even AI-stylized images to give your phone a look that’s uniquely yours. With a variety of presets and customizable options, you can switch things up anytime to keep it fresh.
Smarter AI Right at Your Fingertips
The external display isn’t just about looks—it’s powerful too. Without even unfolding the phone, you can use AI to translate conversations in real-time, book a ride with a simple command, edit photos, or get quick answers to questions. For even faster access, a double-tap on the back cover can instantly bring up the payment screen—faster than digging through menus.
Full App Access Without Opening the Phone
Perhaps one of the most impressive updates is that the external screen now supports nearly all apps and games. Whether you’re scrolling through social media, shopping online, or even gaming, you can do it right from the compact display. It’s a small screen with big possibilities, giving you more freedom in how you use your phone every day.
Gaming Performance
Running heavy games on a foldable phone is always a real test of both performance and thermal design. The Honor Magic V Flip2 comes armed with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which sets the tone for flagship-level speed. Alongside that, Honor adds its in-house energy-efficient E2 chip, designed to keep heat under control. The unit I tested packs 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, so it’s built to handle demanding apps with ease.
For testing, I played two popular but very different titles: Honor of Kings and Genshin Impact. The room temperature during the tests was a steady 26°C, with performance mode switched on.
Honor of Kings
On this device, the game supports 120FPS in HD mode and 90FPS on extreme settings. For my test, I went with the extreme 90FPS option. Over a 15-minute match, the phone delivered an average of 85.9FPS, though around the 10-minute mark, it automatically capped the output at 80FPS.
Power draw came in at 3.1W, with an average energy cost of about 37.2mW per frame. The rear panel temperature reached 39°C—warm but far from uncomfortable. For a competitive game like this, the performance was more than smooth enough to stay locked into the action.
Genshin Impact
This game is far more demanding, so I pushed it with max graphics settings and ran around Sumeru City for 15 minutes. Instead of hard-locking the framerate, the system gradually lowered it to about 45FPS, making the drop feel less jarring while keeping the gameplay fluid.
Here, the average power draw was higher at 4W, and per-frame energy use climbed to 81mW. The real challenge, though, was the heat—temperatures rose to 42°C, which made the device noticeably hot to hold.
Cameras
The Honor Magic V Flip 2 takes a big step forward in the camera department this year. While it still carries a dual-camera setup, the main sensor has received a serious upgrade — now packing a 200MP, 1/1.4-inch sensor with an f/1.9 wide aperture. It supports both OIS and EIS stabilization, comes with 16-in-1 pixel binning that produces 2.24µm equivalent large pixels, and even offers up to 30X AIGC zoom.
The secondary lens isn’t left behind either. It now features a 50MP sensor with a 120° ultra-wide-angle view and doubles as a macro lens with a super-short 2.5cm focusing distance.
When putting the Honor Magic V Flip 2 to the test, the main camera really stood out. Thanks to the massive 200MP resolution, daytime shots were rich in detail — some images exceeded 50MB in size. Even tiny text far away remained sharp after zooming in. In its default mode, the sensor uses 16-in-1 binning to produce 12.5MP shots that pop with vibrant colors, making them instantly shareable on platforms like WeChat or Xiaohongshu. Zooming into faraway buildings gives you that cinematic, dramatic effect you’d expect from a flagship camera.
Low-light performance is equally impressive. In Night Scene mode, the camera handles highlights well, keeps noise under control, and captures subtle details in darker areas without washing them out — perfect for preserving the atmosphere of a city at night.
Ultra-Wide & Macro

The upgraded ultra-wide + macro combo lens feels versatile and fun. It’s wide enough to capture the grandeur of tall buildings, yet capable of zooming in on tiny textures and details you might normally overlook, thanks to its close focusing ability.
Portraits
One of the biggest perks of a flip phone is being able to use the rear cameras for selfies. With the Magic V Flip2’s advanced lenses, portraits come out sharp and natural, with well-balanced lighting, smooth background blur, and beautiful layering in highlights and shadows.
Battery Performance
Honor’s continuous improvements in its Qinghai Lake battery technology are paying off in the Magic V Flip 2. By incorporating silicon–carbon anodes, the battery’s silicon density has now reached 15%—a solid 7.8% increase over the previous generation. Thanks to this upgrade, the phone carries a 5500mAh battery, the largest capacity you’ll currently find in any small foldable device.
Alongside the impressive size, it also supports 80W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging, giving users the flexibility to power up quickly, whether at home or on the go.
To see how this translates into real-world performance, we put the Magic V Flip 2 through detailed battery endurance and charging tests.
Battery Life Test
For consistency, we used Battery Dog (developed by Fast Technology) to simulate real-world usage as closely as possible. Every setting was standardized—screen brightness fixed at 50%, auto-brightness disabled, and volume set at 30%—to keep the results accurate.
It’s worth noting that foldable phones are a little different from regular devices since users don’t constantly rely on the inner display. Because of this, lab results may differ slightly from everyday usage.
In our test, the Magic V Flip 2 lasted 10 hours, 46 minutes, and 19 seconds when drained from 100% down to 20%. Projecting that figure forward, the total endurance comes in at around 13 hours and 27 minutes. That puts it at the top of its class among compact foldables, comfortably delivering a full day of use—especially when paired with its efficient small-screen power-saving mode.
Charging Test
For charging, we unfolded the inner display, enabled super-fast charging mode, and measured the time taken from 1% battery. The results were impressive:
- 10 minutes → 24%
- 20 minutes → 49%
- 30 minutes → 74%
- 47 minutes → 100%
Verdict
After putting the Honor Magic V Flip2 through a series of tests, it’s clear that Honor has taken big steps forward compared to its previous generation. The focus this time has been on refining the camera system, boosting battery capacity, enhancing external screen functions, and improving the overall build and feel of the device.
The first thing that stands out is the upgraded camera setup. Honor has managed to equip the Flip2 with the only 200MP main camera in the compact foldable category, paired with a 50MP ultra-wide lens. This is a massive leap from the earlier version and puts it on par with traditional flagship bar-style phones. Thanks to its foldable form, the main camera also doubles as one of the best selfie shooters you can get today.
Next is endurance. The Honor Magic V Flip 2 packs the largest battery in its class at 5500mAh, delivering an impressive runtime of over 13 hours on a full charge. To top it off, the 80W fast charging support ensures you’re never left waiting long, making it one of the strongest contenders in the foldable lineup when it comes to power and charging.
Honor has also put serious effort into making the external screen more versatile. From interactive animations and virtual pets to customizable lock screens, AI features, and app support, the cover display is no longer just a decorative add-on. Instead, it introduces a fresh way of interacting with the phone without always flipping it open—helping to shake off the old perception of compact foldables as “pretty but impractical.”
Durability is another area where Honor has stepped up. The new Luban architecture, reinforced UTG glass, and IP58 & IP59 dust and water resistance ratings bring peace of mind to users who may still doubt the toughness of smaller foldables. This level of craftsmanship makes it reliable enough to serve as a primary device, not just a stylish secondary phone.
Honor’s push into the compact foldable market shows real intent. With its robust build, powerful cameras, long-lasting battery, faster charging, and smarter external screen, the Magic V Flip2 feels like more than just another iteration—it’s a statement.
If most small foldables can be considered flagships within their own category, the Honor Magic V Flip2 flips the script—it’s not just a foldable flagship, it’s a flagship that happens to fold.
