How to Set Up WiFi at Your New Home?

If you have finally made it to your new house or apartment, the one you dreamed about and you are all excited to set everything up, just the way you wanted, there is one thing you would want to take care of first. And that is to set up your internet and Wi-Fi network.

You might have not done it before or it must have been a long time since you last time installed your Wi-Fi connection and have forgotten how to get it done. Well, do not worry at all since in this post we have you all covered. We will make it as easy for you as we can. First things first, of course, you need to find a reliable and high-speed internet service provider for yourself. You can look out for providers like Cox internet for instance, that have an exciting range of plans and bundle offers with maximum customization options, affordable pricing, and of course a reliable customer support service to count on.

Once you have found the perfect internet plan for yourself, the rest of the process is easy breezy. So without any further ado, let us get started with these simple yet effective steps that you can follow to set up the Wi-Fi at your new place to enjoy a seamless connectivity experience. Dive in!

First things First-Choose a suitable ISP

The most obvious and essential step to be able to set up a new Wi-Fi connection is to find the right internet service provider for yourself. Begin with choosing the perfect internet type to fit your household needs. Do some basic analysis of your internet speed requirements by keeping the budget and number of users in mind.

If you are looking for high speed but at a more affordable price, for multiple users in the household, you can always opt for cable internet plans and providers in your area. If budget is not a concern and you want to experience blazing fast internet speeds without a compromise, then fiber internet providers should be your go-to option. If your new house is located in a comparatively remote area with minimal or no other internet options available, then you would have to look for the best satellite internet provider offering services in your area.

Once you have shortlisted and picked the best provider and internet plan for yourself, contact and get the desirable internet subscription. Once down, move to the next step.

    Set up Your Router

Most of the modern routers can be monitored from your phone. Even if your router does not have this feature, you can easily set it up manually. You will need a web browser, router’s IP address that is usually present in the user manual, or a label placed on the router.

Connect your router to a Windows machine and this is how you can find out the IP address:

    • First, you can enter IPCONFIG after opening the Command Prompt.
    • You can find the address you are looking for under the default gateway.

You can also find it out by connecting your router to a Mac.

    • Go to the network settings.
    • Now choose TCP/IP tab.
    • You can find the IP address under the option

When you have found the IP address of the router, now it is time to connect a device directly to the router via an Ethernet cable and type the number on the browser to access the router security settings.

Set up the Wireless Network Security

You will be required to enter a username and password before you log in to your router. In case it’s a new router, the default username and password are usually printed on the router or you can check the user manual.

Enter the credentials to log in and change the network name. Next, set the security protocol to WPA2 and choose a new password.

Changing your password and not using the default ones is highly recommended to keep any hackers or intruders away from your wireless network.

The default wireless network name is usually set as SSID and that is what will appear to those who will search for a Wi-Fi network in the vicinity. So y7ou must change your network name into something that you can easily identify in the list of available networks.

Connecting Your Devices to the Wi-Fi network

Voila! Your Wi-Fi network is all set to start connecting the devices. Recognize the network name you set, connect to it by entering the new password, and you are connected online!

    Wrapping Up,

Setting up the wireless network in the new house is an essential commodity that you will need for personal and work-related tasks, as soon as you move in. Most of the devices in the household including your laptops, smartphones, thermostat, or any smart home device makes use of the wireless home network. Therefore following the aforementioned tips and steps can help you pull it off smoothly, without needing any technical support.
