Huawei Mate 40 Pro Disassemble: Almost Every Component is Modular

Following the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro, Iotech now brings a teardown video of Huawei Mate 40 Pro.

Similar to dismantling other smartphones, starting from the back of the Huawei Mate 40 Pro phone. Heat the back cover for about 3 minutes, and then remove the back cover with a suction cup and disassembly piece. The back cover of Huawei Mate 40 Pro is still easy to remove. There are almost no parts on the back cover, only the battery and the camera have some cushioning foam.

After uncovering the back cover, you can see a middle frame covering the motherboard and battery. In the middle frame, you can see the laser focusing module, NFC induction coil, and wireless charging coil.

Before disassembling, you need to remove all the screws that fix the middle frame, and then disconnect the laser focus sensor line from the motherboard. Huawei integrates the mainboard cover, laser focus module, NFC induction coil, and wireless charging coil into the same module. There are two heat dissipation stickers on the module.

After disconnecting the battery cable, you can take out the rear camera module of Huawei Mate 40 Pro. The telephoto camera uses a separate module, while the main camera and wide-angle camera are set on the same module.

The specifications of the camera are as follows:

    • Main camera: 50MP, f/1.9, 23mm, 1/1.28″, 1.22µm, omnidirectional PDAF, laser AF.
    • Telephoto camera. 12MP, f/3.4, 125mm, PDAF, OIS, 5x optical zoom.
    • Ultra-wide-angle camera: 20MP, f/1.8, 18mm, PDAF.

Remove the screws securing the motherboard and take off the motherboard. You can see that all the components and chips on the motherboard are covered by the metal cover. After removing the metal cover, you can see the ROM chip on the front of the motherboard. The Kirin 9000 SOC is packaged under the ROM, so we can’t see it.

The USB-C interface (charging and earphone) of Huawei Mate 40 Pro is integrated into a single line, because the USB-C interface is very easy to damage, and the independent USB-C interface module is very convenient to replace later. The SIM card slot is located on the back of the bottom plate. The speaker is fixed on the lower-left corner of the fuselage with glue.

The disassembly of the battery is very convenient, there is a pull tab under the battery. The battery specification is 16.94Wh (3.85V, 4400mAh), which is slightly smaller than the 17.32Wh (3.85V, 4500mAh) of Huawei Mate 30 Pro.

In order to increase the charging speed, we can see that the battery of the Mate 40 Pro has two wires, located on the left and right sides of the battery.

Almost every component of Huawei Mate 40 Pro is modular and can be replaced independently. After removing the back cover, middle frame, and cables, you can quickly replace the battery by pulling the label. This design is very friendly for maintenance.
