Huawei Mate XT 2 Officially Launches with Kirin 9050 Pro and New Triple-Folding Design

Huawei has officially unveiled HUAWEI Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design, its next-generation triple-folding smartphone, at the company’s HarmonyOS 7 and All-Scenario New Product Launch held on September 7.

Starting at RMB 19,999, the Mate XT 2 introduces a redesigned inward-folding mechanism, a 10.2-inch OLED display, an upgraded camera system, and Huawei’s new Kirin 9050 Pro chipset. The phone is scheduled to go on sale in China on September 12 at 10:08 a.m.

Kirin 9050 Pro Debuts with a New Architecture

One of the biggest highlights of the Mate XT 2 is the debut of Kirin 9050 Pro. Huawei describes it as a mass-production chip based on a new logic-folding architecture and featuring its newly introduced Taoding Law technology.

The processor uses Huawei’s Lingxi CPU hyper-threading architecture and adopts a nine-core configuration. It consists of one Prime core, two Performance cores, four Efficiency cores, and two Little cores.

Huawei says the chip uses vertically interconnected, layered logic units to improve processing efficiency. Compared with the previous generation, single-core peak performance is claimed to increase by 24%, while multi-core performance rises by 52%.

The Kirin 9050 Pro also integrates Huawei’s Maleoon GPU and Da Vinci NPU. The GPU supports real-time ray tracing with up to 50 million rays and is claimed to deliver a 142% improvement in rendering performance. Huawei also reports a 40% faster 4K video export speed.

At the system level, Huawei says the Mate XT 2 achieves a 42% overall performance improvement over the Mate XTs through closer coordination between hardware, software, the chipset, and cloud services.

Satellite Connectivity and Improved Thermal Management

The Kirin 9050 Pro integrates a Balong modem, with Huawei claiming a 42% improvement in satellite paging success rates. The phone also introduces support for low-Earth-orbit broadband satellite connectivity.

Thermal management has received attention as well. The Mate XT 2 uses a multi-channel heat-dissipation package combined with a large VC and graphene cross-axis cooling system. Huawei says the design can reduce gaming-related temperature increases by around 2.5 degrees Celsius.

    A New Inward-Folding Triple-Screen Design

Huawei has moved away from the Z-shaped folding mechanism used by the previous generation and introduced what it calls a new dual-inward-folding “wings” design.

With the new structure, both side sections fold inward while the main display can be completely enclosed inside the phone. This places the flexible folding areas on the inside when the device is closed, potentially providing a different approach to protecting the foldable panel.

When folded, the Mate XT 2 is just 3.5mm thick, according to Huawei.

The phone comes in three colors: Obsidian Black, Hao White, and Brocade Purple.

10.2-Inch OLED Display with Privacy Mode

The Mate XT 2 features a dedicated rigid dual-layer OLED outer display, allowing users to perform everyday tasks without opening the main folding screen. Calls, messages, and QR-code payments can all be handled from the outer display.

Fully unfolded, the internal screen measures 10.2 inches and offers a 2232 × 3184 resolution.

The panel uses UFG ultra-flexible glass and supports a 1-120Hz LTPO adaptive refresh rate along with 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming.

Huawei is also offering two display configurations: a hardware privacy-screen version using its Ling Shield technology and a standard shared-view version. Users can switch between the two modes with a double tap.

Triple Camera System Focuses on Dynamic Range and Color

Photography is another major area of the Mate XT 2.

The phone features a flagship triple-camera setup paired with Huawei’s third-generation Red Maple primary-color camera technology.

The main camera uses a 50-megapixel RYYB sensor with an 18EV ultra-high dynamic range, a continuous F1.49-F4.0 variable aperture, a 1/1.28-inch sensor size, and LOFIC technology.

The ultrawide camera uses a 40-megapixel RYYB sensor with high-dynamic-range imaging capabilities.

For zoom photography, the phone includes a 50-megapixel RYYB periscope telephoto camera with an F2.2 aperture. It supports 3.5x optical zoom and up to 7x optical-quality zoom, together with OIS optical image stabilization and telephoto macro photography.

The third-generation Red Maple camera system uses a new filter lens designed to improve infrared-light purity. Huawei claims a 100% improvement in infrared-light purity, while the larger pixel size increases incoming light by 96%.

Compared with the Mate XTs, Huawei says color reproduction has improved by 95%.

ECG Analysis Is Built Into the Camera Module

An unusual addition is an optical sensor integrated into the rear camera module.

By placing a finger on the sensor, users can collect physiological data including heart rate, ECG readings, and blood oxygen levels. The collected information can then be synchronized with Huawei’s Health app for storage and viewing.

Huawei describes this as an industry-first ECG analysis feature integrated into this type of camera-module design.

    Extensive Wireless Connectivity

The Mate XT 2 supports a broad range of communication technologies, including 5G, eSIM, UWB, Wi-Fi 7, NearLink, Tiantong satellite calling, and BeiDou satellite messaging.

This combination gives the triple-folding phone connectivity options extending beyond conventional cellular networks, particularly for satellite-based communication features.

    HarmonyOS 7 Optimized for a Triple-Folding Screen

The Mate XT 2 ships with HarmonyOS 7, which has been optimized for the larger display area and unique folding configuration.

The software supports flexible multi-window layouts, cross-app workflows, and multi-screen collaboration. Huawei has also removed the Android compatibility layer from the system, with the company saying that the phone’s functions now run on its own HarmonyOS framework.

The large unfolded display is therefore designed to function more like a compact tablet when users need additional workspace, while the outer screen handles everyday smartphone tasks.

Huawei Mate XT 2 Price and Availability

The HUAWEI Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design will be available in four configurations in China. Sales officially begin on September 12 at 10:08 a.m.

    Configuration Price
    16GB + 256GB RMB 19,999
    16GB + 512GB RMB 21,999
    16GB + 1TB RMB 23,999
    16GB + 1TB Privacy Edition RMB 24,999

    Final Thoughts

Huawei Mate XT 2 is more than a specification upgrade to the company’s triple-folding phone lineup. Its biggest changes are concentrated in three areas: the new inward-folding “wings” structure, the Kirin 9050 Pro platform, and a more ambitious camera and connectivity package.

The 10.2-inch OLED panel gives the phone a large working area when fully opened, while the independent outer display is designed to make the device practical without unfolding it every time.

With a starting price of RMB 19,999, the Mate XT 2 remains firmly positioned in the ultra-premium smartphone segment. Its combination of a new triple-folding mechanism, Huawei’s latest Kirin platform, satellite connectivity, and upgraded imaging system makes it one of the company’s most technically ambitious smartphones of 2026.
