Rumors about future Apple products do not stop. Now, a new report released by the Taiwanese newspaper Economic Daily News says. The Cupertino house has already concluded a supply contract for Mini LED panels with InnoLux. The goal is to use this component with the iPad Pro 2020 Tablet which will be marketed within the 2nd half of the year.
According to the report, InnoLux has managed to enter Apple’s Asian supply chain for the first time. The company would have already sent the samples to Cupertino’s to be able to mount in the iPad Pro of 2020. The timing indicated by the source, however, makes the launch of an iPad Pro with Mini LED display set for the month of March unlikely.
In principle, the mini-LED technology differs from another baptized as a micro-LED substantially. According to Kuo, mini-LED displays will allow for a higher contrast ratio. As well as higher brightness and deeper black color.
Who has been leading the rumors of both technologies for months has been Ming-Chi Kuo. The analyst, who signed for TF International Securities a while ago, says that Apple works on products with these 2 types of panels. Specifically, it indicates that the distribution would be as follows:
Mini-LED:
- iPad Pro and MacBook Pro in 2020
Micro-LED:
- Apple Watch in 2020, although the MacBook too
All these changes are expected in the 2nd half of 2020, possibly spilling in 2021. The interesting thing about this is that Apple would use the mini-LED panels on the large screens of its devices (MacBook Pro 16-inch and iPad 12, 9 inches). This technology is much easier and cheaper to manufacture in large quantities.
The micro-LED, on the other hand, seems reserved for smaller devices. Both the high-end iPhone and Apple Watch have OLED screens. Incorporating the micro-LED would be an important leap in features. It would be easier to manufacture because of its size and easier to integrate with the price.
