Released two month ago, finallly is filling sellers stock, JYU Hornet 2 is a proper racing drone with camera capabilities with a niche price tag, compared to expensive brands, like DJI which Phantom 4 with 4K cam cost around $1500.00 USD when you can get almost the same performance with the Hornet 2 for a third of the price. This equipment is intended for those who want a semi-pro drone with 4K video recording with gimbal option.
Desing
The Hornet 2 is an upgrade from the last model, the drone has been complete redesigned, on the inside and outside. Made from injected plastic painted in white for best sight. This quadcopter has a modular design, then can be used for race (FPV mode) or for aerial shot (advanced 4K camera + gimbal). The stand can be removed in order to loose weight if you are gonna use it in race mode. The RC was also redesigned, now it feels more light a easy to use.
Features
Its cameras are enhanced with an optical sensor of better quality and resolution, one of the most notorious improvements is in the FPV version, in the advanced version the camera module is added a Gimbal or engine that allows to change the angle of the camera while flying in first person. Internally all electronics are redesigned to allow the IMU system or main flight sensors to be placed in a vibration reduction system. This internal redesign also allows this new drone to carry a bigger battery with greater current and voltage capacity. Past from using a 2500mAh (11.1V) battery in the last model, to a 3600mAh (14.8V) in this new iteration, this improvement will give an autonomy between 22 to 28 minutes of flight.
As additional info, the Hornet made reinforcement of the arms, to avoid its damage in some crash when flying fast in the version FPV, which is light weith. Also their engines were changed to allow better efficiency and cooling in them, their propellers are larger, they moved from using 6-inch 6030 propellers, to a new 7-inch propellers with higher pich 7340 and to finalize the summary of their main improvements remote control has been improved, now allows a greater scope of 2000 meters in line of sight, so the reach of the command to the drone is doubled. Also for this new version will come and will be sold separately a command that we can carry as a watch also to control the drone from our wrist.
Review
The JYU Hornet 2 will blow your expectations, with the same model but four variants you can go from Basic user to Pro taking advantage from its modular design, just upgrading the base model, every step you take you will have new features like Follow Me, POI, Waypoints, OFR, Headless Mode, One Key Return. If you want to experience race mode try the base model, lighter one in order to catch the top speed faster than the others. But if you want to take advantage of its aerial shots capabilities we recommend to get the Pro version so you can got the 4K camera with Sony sensor and motorized gimbal.
We highly recommend that if this is your first Drone then use beginner mode (remote control option), activating this mode you will notice the Hornet doesn’t response so quickly, but is ok, the drone will pass more time in the sky than in the bushes.
Thanks to double GPS system and stabilization sensors the Hornet have a steady and smooth flight, and every flight function works flawlessly. JYU made a great job with this gizmo, make sure your money is being well invested.
